Post subject:  Just upgraded to the latest PHPBB2
I just updated the board to the newest PHPBB2 that came out a couple weeks ago. I have been hesitant to upgrade to PHPBB3 because the way it looks is different than PHPBB2 which most people are more used to. Any input from you guys on which you prefer?

I am planning a move to a new dedicated hosting that will run on PHP5, which was not compatible completely with PHPBB2, but this latest version apparently has the problems fixed, but I am not absolutely certain of that so I am hesitant. Let me know how you guys feel about switching to a new version of PHPBB3. I know I asked a while ago and most of you seemed to be happy with this version here.

I haven't seen much phpBB3 forums since it's fairly new, but the few examples I've seen looks nice. I wouldn't mind a change - but the most important thing is of course an easy working forum with a lot of users.

i think a upgrade to phpbb 3.0 will be necessary in the future ... security reasons.

it looks different , but its much better and more logical in use.
it takes some adjusting but with file upload , sub forums and some other build in mods it's really handy !

the way it looks right out the box is a little bit weird ( with the user info , on the right) but I think there are some really good theme that undo this ...

hey,

I upgraded my phpbb 2.0.22 forum to 3.0.2

and i have to say ! do it ! and do it fast !

no problems updating everything went smooth and without a problem ( i read lots of forums and found out almost nobody has problems.

when you install it you install it parralell to the old forum so if something should go wrong you always have this one ( it doesn't touch the old old fourm files or db).... it converts everything !

the forum it self:
it's wonderfull !
highly configuarable !
no mod problems, everything is standard.
the admin panel is a joy and really handy !

attachments are really easy to do
you really can change everything super easy!

also the standard forum style is quite identical with this one and also really easy and fast changed ( icons, styles template,....)


I recommend it ! installing takes 15 minutes without even downtime in the old forum.

try it :-) every admin loves it ! ( i'm sure)

Personally i would stop with phpbb and switch to vbullitin or something like that.

phpbb gets hacked a lot and spammers love it, the bigger it gets the slower it gets compared with example vbullitin

i also get a lot of errors on the current forum, with error , critical error cant connect to databasse.
i think thats server related.

My car club has 175,136 members. The forum uses vBulletin 3.7.0 and runs solid. The stats say 1,431,504 threads with 22,106,115 posts :shock:

My motorcycle club isn't exactly small either 86,542 members with 228,687 threads and 3,401,223 posts.

But remember that this isn't a commercial venture for admin, so anything other than an open source solution is going to have personal financial impact for him.

in phpbb 3 these problems are all solved and spammers don't get a change security was thiere highest priority !

found another great new fuction:

"watch active topics"

you get a list of all topics ( a new forumlike list) where posts are made, so it saves a lot of clicking when you read almost everything in every topic ...

could come in handy ;-)

Yes thats tru, i can help him with a vbullitin forum, i set one up time ago but it never came from the ground now its doing nothing.

if admin would like to upgrade to vbullitin and wants a nother webhoster free of charge let me know

I appreciate it guys, but I will likely move to PHPBB3 and a new webhost that I know is reliable when I get the chance. I really want to make sure this is the last one I have to do!
