Post subject:  Son of a ***** moments
so I was reading something about stupid injuries athletes have had. Examples being....blowing out a knee while celebrating a TD, John Smoltz cutting himself while shaving, etc.

Got me thinking....what is the dumbest or most careless way any of you have put a big scratch on a watch?

We aren't talking about high impact activities or while doing heavy physical work . That is a play at your own risk thing.

crashed my motorcycle years ago and scratched 4 links! The watch was only a few months old.

Carelessly and with reason still unkown to me I manage to knock it into walls as I turn corners. Stupid stuf like that!!! I always say.... "that was an expensive sound"

But the mother of all was when I woke up one night when I heard a very painful sound of my heavy B2 smashing the hard wood floor. Bastard cat proceeded to try and play football with it!!!!!

I have subsequently learned to place the watch on a nice soft sheep skin rug next to my bed while I sleep and not on the bed side table.

However!!! Now I have a tastey rubber strap on it so I need to cover the watch with a t shirt or something as my cat is a strange bugger who loves to chew rubbery things. Could you imagine waking up to a strap peppered with teeth marks :guns:

The worst is the odd small claw marks in the grills of my Meridian speakers!!!!!!

Not my precious Breitlings, yet; but my old new beater Citizen. The first day I had it I ran it across the vice jaws in my shop! I think I said aw shucks, or something like that. :wowzers

I was once in my yard doing some work and had forgotten to take off my vintage TransOcean. Suddenly it occured to me; "Hey, dumb idea to wear your watch doing yard work. Better take it off."

I made the mistake of unclasping it while I was walking (never trust a guy to do two things at once) and dropped it face down on the concrete. Then like some bad comedy sketch, I trod on it! Suffice to say the crystal was shattered. Amazingly only one very small scratch on the case, which polished out. Off to the watch makers! Now to look at it, you'd never know. At the time, major panic.

ahhhh yes. My skyland must of been about a week old. laying outside on a hammock, fell off wile trying to get off it. scrached one of the links on a brick!

All of my worst scratches have happened at work when I cut a corner too short and bump into metal door frames or corner trim, but those are more "You Dumb***" type moments.

My Rolex GMT Master II took a lot of beating - I managed to hit it few times against the wall and metal doors. Surprisingly the worst damage it incurred was just small ding on the case of the watch.

My latest SOB moment was all my fault...I let my wife borrow one of my PAM's. She wanted to wear a base on brown calf since apparently that's the new 'cool thing' for women to do. After a day of spending money at the mall she returned my watch with a big ding in the CG which cost me a cool $600 to replace :evil:

Is it just me or do women generally not give a crap what happens to their watches?

So she dinged your watch while spending money all day then you got to pay for it? Talk about piling on

@ roman Very true! Her daily watch is a mens DJ with diamond bezel/dial on a president bracelet. Last year I dropped it off at the Dallas service center for a cleanup and service. I also got a nice mat for her to set it on the counter instead of getting banged up again. One week after she got it back I went out side to see her watering the flowers with the watch laying across a brick fountain we have out back :roll:

@thomas Piling it on AND somehow using the woman super power to make it all my fault. I of course asked her about the ding and she found a way to turn it into something completely irrelevant, which through some backwards mind warp made it my bad and I end up apologizing for it :huh


This topic reminded me of how mistreated us men are in the relationship, so I just called George and ordered the blue ring SuperOcean II muahahaha :P

THE WORST scenario I face is when I pull up to drive-thru instant tellers... that stupid box that they keep the envelopes in has a lid that doesn't stay up, it is designed to close with authority so the wind doesn't blow the envelopes away. Since I can only use my left hand to reach it and can't use my right hand to hold the lid open, it has a tendancy to flop down directly on my watch. This happened twice before I learned to expect it and avoid it. Now I remove my watch before grabbing an envelope.

I have honed my instinct to swing my hand behind my body when entering doorways... so I never hit doorframes anymore. But that took a few months of consious effort before it became automatic.

Lots of good stories and I could see all of these scenarios happening to me.

Most important though is the fact that no body ended up with terrible damage. That is really a testimonial to the quality of a well made watch.

I scratched a brand new Seamaster chrono while trying to stuff a bag down the garbage chute in my apartment building. Caught it on the metal lip around the door of the chute.

I felt REALLY stupid as soon as it happened, annoyed at myself for not taking enough care (it was 5.30 in the morning and I was rushing to catch a flight to Japan).

As a consolation, the scratch seemed to "weather" and about a week later it wasn't nearly as noticeable.
