Media release just received

Image

As a privileged partner of aviation, Breitling enjoys long-established associations with the greatest professionals and flight teams on the planet – including the prestigious TOPGUN flying school, the US Navy tactics instructor program. In a meeting held at the NAS Fallon, Nevada base, TOPGUN members unanimously decided to signal their exclusive cooperation with Breitling through the creation of a limited edition bearing their insignia. This Chronomat 44 chronograph, produced in a worldwide 500-piece limited edition and equipped with a 100% Breitling high-performance movement, features a blue dial in the US Navy colors carrying the authentic logo of the “United States Navy Fighter Weapons School” – the official TOPGUN name. The engraved caseback displays the same logo, accompanied by the limited-edition number. Part of the proceeds from the sale of this exceptional instrument will be donated to a charity selected by the TOPGUN cadre.

I like the integration with the running seconds subdial, but not sure whether it seems a little unbalanced with the red ring. Academic for me as I'm not going to be buying that bezel, but if this is the future look of Chronomat LEs then it's not bad.

Yes the red ring does it make it look unbalanced, otherwise I like everything else about it.

Hmmm, definitely not love at first sight, just does not reach out to me. It does not scream "OMG, I have to get this!!!".
But that's just me I guess.

Not my cup of tea. Distinctive but don't like the black subs on the blue dial and I agree that the red sub makes it look out of balance. I think it would look far better with three black subs. There are not many new of the models that I do yearn for.

Pretty cool if you belong to that elite group. The red ring looks a little odd, but if you are a Top Gun grad, that's your patch and you wear it with pride. I have to utmost respect for those guys. Nerves of steel.

:yeahthat If one is connected or interested in this organization I don't think the color balance issues would be a big deal, of course one would still have to like the watch. Looks like it may be all brushed/satin (?) too which is nice.

Reminds of the Airwolf Naval Centennial LE, which I think sold pretty well.

I'm a TOPGUN grad (but I was in the Air Force), yesterday was my last day of active duty (free at last!). As an Air Force guy I have always loved the USAF Weapons School B-1 LE with the patch at the 9. As a "getting out" present my wife got me a pinstripe Airwolf last week which I absolutely love! So seeing an LE TOPGUN watch is great, but I am definitely not a fan of this one. If only I could steal that patch and have it added to my Airwolf, life would be great. At least the TOPGUN name is getting back out there!
