Ewen, how old is the watch?

I would say that it is most likely "out of beat", which means that the amplitude of the balance is not equally distributed.... :huh
OK, easier said:
You know how a watch goes: "tic-toc-tic-toc-tic-toc", well yours is (probably) doing: "tic-toc...tic-toc...tic-toc".
This will cause the movement to hesitate to start because the pallet fork is not lined up straight with the balance roller.
This problem is caused by an impact.

It is a fairly easy fix by a qualified watchmaker.

Hi Vanessa, I bought it new (AD) a couple of months ago, it was made last quarter 2007. You have worried me now :)
Its had no knocks / impacts since I've owned it and has been average of + 4/5 secs a day since purchase.
This is the first time shes done this...am I risking anything letting her run for a while and see if she does it again before taking her in for repair ?

Normally I prefer the saying "if it ain't broken, don't fix it" but when it comes to my watches, I'd probably go ahead and try to fix that as soon as possible. Just to ease the mind.

I would definately take 'er in! especially since it will be covered by warranty most likely. Can't be too careful.. it was a big purchase!
