Hi, I'm new to the Breitling family as of about 2 weeks ago when I picked up a Motors from Hamra Jewelers, an AD here in Scottsdale AZ. This is my first Luxury watch and I've gotten bit by the bug. I'm already searching for my next watch.

Anyway, on to my question. Several years ago I had a conversation with a vendor of mine about watches. He said that he typically will buy a replica of each of his favorite watches to wear when traveling or to wear during some activities that may damage the watch. I'm wondering if this is something that is common among watch collectors? Or was this an exception, not the rule? I for one have considered picking up a replica but haven't primarily for two reasons. First, a replica just doesn't have the heart and soul of the original so I wouldn't feel like I'm getting much out of it... and secondly, I think I'd have a hard time supporting the "fake" industry. Obviously if there's demand for fakes they'll be made... but if there wasn't demand (or in this case me contributing to demand) then perhaps the industry would shrink a bit or disappear.

What are your thoughts on this?

Mike

I'm sure that you'll get a lot of different opinions on here, as for myself, I'd just wear a less expensive watch when I'm doing something that could damage my watch. Like when I'm mowing the lawn and doing yard work I'll wear my G-Shock or something. If I'm going to spend a bunch of money on a watch, I'm going to wear the real thing. I understand why your friend does what he does, but I'm not going to but a watch for thousands of dollars to keep in my house so nothing happens to it. What did you just get bye the way?

hi Mike welcome to Breitling source. glad you joined the club of ling owners. You mentioned you got your watch from Hamra,,,by any chance did Rob sell that piece to you?

ok as for the whole replica thing...i have to agree with roman. for me i would just not wear a nice watch if i was worried about banging it up. in fact my daily wearer is a a digital Diesel watch i purchased from LAX while i was on vacation. nothing against anyone who does this but its just not for me. in fact lately i have been wanting to get a G shock that i could take with me on vacation to jump in and out of the ocean with and not worry about.

I can't speak for the entire watch-wearing world but I would not wear a replica of my genuine watch. Seems like a silly waste of time and money to be doubling up. Also I don't really condone encouraging fakes by purchashing them.

If you're traveling, there are ways to keep your watches safe (i.e. in a hotel safe or leave them at home). There are also watches made to withstand more vigorous activities - no need to have a cheap replica of your genuine watch when there are plenty of cheap genuine watches that can do the same thing.

Yes, I indeed got it from Rob. He'll remember me as I originally picked up a GMT, then exchanged it. I picked up a A25362 Bentley Motors with the blue dial. I'll steal a pic form here since I haven't taken one:

great watch! Rob is a good guy been talking to him for a bit. The only reason i found out about Hamra is they were one of the Patek AD's closest to me. enjoy the watch my friend.

Will never understand fake watches - you can buy a watch at literally any price point, so why buy a fake. If you are trying to convince other people then you are trying to be something that you aren't, and I don't have time fro people like that. Apart from anything else, the owner always knows that it's fake and I couldn't live with that.

As the current advertising campaign says - fake watches are for fake people.

Let's not even get into the legality and the worker exploitation by the manufacturers.

If you need a watch to wear for diving, hunting, combat, space travel, or whatever extreme activity you're into, there are watches for that. In fact, a watch designed for those activities will probably perform better than a fake of a fancier watch. Breitlings are durable watches in general. I don't know if I'd wear a Bentley everywhere, but that's the reason I got my Superocean. I wanted a nice watch that I can wear under any conditions.

Gotta love the SA. IMO the best bang for the buck. there is nothing with the wrist presence as the SA for that price.

There are some outstanding fakes out there !

And in some ways better then your £50-100 high St brand watches but never the less it will still be a fake on your wrist which to me is wrong !!

I would rather have a daily beater and wear that when I'm worried about damaging one of my nicer pieces but then again I buy my watches to wear and i enjoy wearing them a few dings and scratches is part and parcel of wearing a watch and enjoying doing so !

Round were I live and work on the door I have noticed a sudden rush of Breitling Bently fakes to the point were I spotted 3 last sat night ! 2 guys in the same group had them !!!

Makes me laugh when you a 18-20yo dressed like shit wearing one of the most expensive watches in the range ! Not that someone of that age range couldn't afford one just you know full well these guys can't !

Fake watches, like other counterfeit merchandise; they are for posers. Not my cup-o-tea.

And 16 year olds. When I was a kid I'd buy fakes TAGs in the city for $25 and sell them for $50 to kids in school on the Island. Sure it wasn't very ethical, but hey, I was 16.

The watch is a replica, the wearer is the fake.
