Just wondering that Canadian members experiences are buying a used UK watch and bringning it into Canada.

What are the expected fees, bumps and issues someone can expect to encounter?

You'll get hit for the GST / PST combo or HST depending on where you live, plus 5% import duty. There'll also be a handling fee from the courier company and GST or HST on that - reckon about 20% all in.

I've never had any issues, just expect some delays at Customs, although the UK isn't one of the originalting countries that causes concern.

PST/GST/HST would only apply for a new watch purchase though right?

No.

You have to pay taxes on any transaction in Canada - same as if you buy a used car.

Technically yes, but it depends if the tax man finds out. On importation to Canada the authorities will obviously know because of Customs clearance.

...Or you can flat out declare a small amount for Customs (around 500$) 8) and hope/pray there will not be any glitches or surprises anywhere....

Works for many of us 8)

Are you hand carrying the item back with you or having it sent to you in the post?

Is it a pre owned watch?
