Post subject: | Warranty Question? |
I recently purchased a brand new Breitling Hercules on ebay. The seller stated that the watch was still under warranty, and when I asked him when it was originally purchased he said it was bought as part of a large Breitling package from an AD only two weeks ago. I received the watch yesterday and it looks great and is brand new. I fully wound it when I received it and seven hours later it was running almost 5 minutes fast. I then reset the time before I went to bed last night and when I woke up 8 hours later it was then running 20 seconds slow. I have read that sometimes after a watch has been sitting for an extended period of time that it may need to run for a while to regain its accuracy, is this true? |

Well let's be clear - the watch is not brand new. The Hercules was discontinued in 2006 so the watch is at least 4 years old - the exact week and year of manufacture will be coded between the 6 o'clock lugs. That said, the warranty runs from the date of first retail sale, so if it was sold as a NOS piece two weeks ago then it would still have a two year warranty. What worries me is that it's been a long time since I heard of a NOS Hercules. ADs sometimes forget to date the paperwork, but more normally it's deliberately left blank in case the watch has problems more than 2 years after purchase so that the buyer can enter a later date. BUSA have started playing hardball lately and can refuse to provide warranty coverage on undated papers. If I were you I would contact BUSA, provide the serial number and ask when the sale was registered in their records. |

If I was willing to guess they are going to tell you it needs service. |

Thanks for the advice, I will contact BUSA and see what they have to say. I've also contacted the seller to see if I can get more of the original purchase details. I hate buying a watch from anywhere but an AD, but unfortunately this is the only way to get the Hercules which I've wanted since 2005 when I saw it in a Jewelry store when I was on a cruise in Alaska. I just hope I'm not going to have to pay $500-$700 to get it serviced immediately. |
