How rare is Cosmonaute with display back? I heard that these were made only for one year.

How much premium in price do they command as compared to regular Cosmonautes?

Thanks!

They aren't that rare. They are a special edition rather than a limited edition so not a limited number, but general belief is that there were close to 3,000 produced over about 3 years in the mid 90s.

Assuming that we are talking about the black dial with a steel bezel then the price is in the $2,500 range, maybe slightly higher. The rarer blue dial will be a little more, and the gold bezel will add $1,000 or so.

Roffensian,

Thanks for quick reply!

Is that price for the watch head only or does it include bracelet/strap as well?

They come up on ebay a few times a year. I picked my black face on croco up about 10mths ago, barely ever worn and in perfect condition with all boxes and papers for $2700. Tracking down the matching 423A brcelet is another story. Recently got a very used one for $700. Both watch and bracelet are with BUSA for overhaul before wearing, adding further cost.

I'm assuming a non new strap which is how most of them show up.

I paid less for mine, but it had a cheap aftermarket strap an tang buckle.

Roff, it is now a year later and I am considering a new Cosmonaute from an AD for $4000.00+USD. But I would love display back. A year later, now, are cosmos with display backs still around for $2500.00USD?

Prices aren't going to move much - it's a 15 year old watch now so prices are stable. They still show up fairly regularly.

It's a beautiful watch, I always thought it a shame though that they didn't make the display back slightly larger to show off more of the mechanism

I got mine about six months ago and looked for about six months before i found it. I didn't find many priced as low as Roff's in good condition. I think if you're looking for with with the bracelet in good condition expect to pay 3- 3.5k. Without the bracelet in good condition 2.75- 3k.
