Post subject:  What's the best way to clean your Breitling?

I have heard various comments in these threads about how one should best clean/care for your Breitling (dish soap weekly, etc).

I was hoping to raise this question to see if I could get some responses from people for what has worked best in practice for them.

I have a Chronomat Evolution, MOP Diamond bezel and dial. Stainless steel with stainless steel pilot bracelet.

Thanks!

Chris

Yeah it's been discussed dozens of times so the search will help.

Soft toothbrush and dish soap for me. There has also been a recent recommendation for diluted Simple Green.

i do at least a rinse if im in salt water. then later a wash, i try to NEVER touch it or sunglasses once salt water dries, salt destroys. a few times a week i try to do a dish soap and micro fiber dry, or a towel. i do the same with sunglasses but im a little more careful with them mainly because i think theyre less scratch resistant.

Each time I put it on I simply use hot water on a micro fiber cloth(the small thin ones you get at an eyeglass store for a buck or so) and wipe it down, drying with a different micro fiber. This keeps it looking pristene and takes maybe 15 seconds/day.

If it requires actual "cleaning," I first wash my hands, then rinse watch in warm water under faucet. Apply Simple Green to watch and rub with my hands. Rinse while rubbing with hands. Dry intially in a hand towell. Then hit it with a polishing style micro fiber, like the yellow Breitling ones.

After polishing with a rubbing compound or Cape Cod cloth I use the cleaning in the paragraph above to remove the residue.

But the daily "wipe down" pretty much obviates the need for much actual cleaning in normal use.

I got this great solution in a mall for 20 bucks called razzle dazzle i put it in a microwave container and dip the watch in it and use a soft shoe polish brush. Works great for me at least once a week

Dear all,

are you not afraid that dish soap could remove the anti-reflet layer of your watch ?
I usually clean mine by using the soft clothe that you get when you buy some eyeglasses.

Regards

Nico

Luke-warm water, hand soap and a super-soft toothbrush for me. And a thorough rinse off in fresh water afterwards.

@Nico - there's no chance of "washing off" the AR with soap and water. The AR coating is super-tough so you'd be no more likely to wash it off than you would be able to wash off some of the metal.

That loud guy with the beard who hawked "revolutionary" new products on infomercials. Like that UNBELIEVABLE car wax so strong you can pour lighter fluid on the hood of your car and set it afire. One of his early ones.

God rest his pointy little head.
