No special color required. In the colt chrono, you have three choices - black, blue, or silver dial.
The black and blue dials have the silver/white sub-dials. I always wondered what the silver dial with the blue subs looked like - I would be partial to that color combination since I don't have any white dials.

Go take a look and see what feels good to you. (although the AD probably won't have all the colors in stock) Good Luck and let us know what you decide.

That's an interesting subject actually. IMHO Breitlings look very fine with blue dial colour. Both the Colts and the SuperOcean Steelfish have a nice, understated steel blue shade; while the SuperOcean has a spectacular vibrant blue shade.

Breitling itself has a corporate identity colour of yellow, and indeed Breitling watches look very nice with yellow dials. However, buying a yellow faced watch could well be a huge mistake: you could get tired of it very quickly; you could find it difficult to wear it every day and match it with clothing; and also it may not be appropriate over a certain age. Don't get me wrong, yellow dial Breitling divers are very nice, and I wouldn't mind getting one for diving, or weekend fun activities, especially on black rubber strap. But to wear one at an office Monday to Friday, or to appear at a meeting with such a watch ...... no way for me.

However, if you check Breitling newspaper and billboard ADs, in most cases they show a chrono -- either a Navitimer, a Chronomat Evo or a Chronomat B01 -- with black face and silver (white) subdials. If you're looking for the classiest Breitling look, this colour schema could be a good choice. Especially since it's very versatile being void of any colours that may clash with your clothing.

I have ordered Chrono colt with a black dial.

best combination IMO, altough the blue dial is also very nice.

Yellow and blue (even though they have now repainted their Albatros in TT grey, as they have added one more aircraft to the squadron)

IMO the traditional dial color of Breitlings is blue and they look terrific in all those variations of blue available, even though we see almost exclusively black and white dials on most ads as Fiery very correctly indicated...which tends to influence people

I'm not sure about that. I mean, if you check Breitling's website, the Chronolog, or scan the web for Breitling logo and other corporate materials, it's always yellow on black blackground. They may use blue for their flight squadron, but I don't think it's part of their corporate identity colour schema. I may be wrong though...

That's very true. It traditionally looks great, but unfortunately blue dials are still not as common as I'd hope. And they use very different blue shades on different models. I especially love the blue shade used on the Navitimer World, and when they combine blue with black subdials (Blackeye Blue).

On the other hand, I don't think blue works that well with other companies. No offense, but I never fancied the blue Seamaster 300M Bond, the white-gold blue Submariner, or the blue Tag Heuer Link Automatic Chrono.

The selection of Breitling colours (yellow and black, not yellow and blue) is covered in The Book - nothing more significant than it was easy to read.

In terms of traditional colours - I guess it depends how far back you go - until the 1970s dials were almost exclusively white, silver or black.

Good call - I was just about to post and saw it was too late. As a general rule with first watches or first of a brand(particularly if it will be your primary watch), I believe it's advisable to get black as black wears well with any color clothing. Same can be said of white(silver). Usually blue is a second watch color. At least that's what the "stylistas" tell me.

The silver with blue subs is only found on the colt chrono and superocean chrono. A very nice combo IMO.

You may be right. :) As I said before, even the Breitling Jet Team is now in grey/black.
