Road trip to the AD tomorrow!

Post subject:  Road trip to the AD tomorrow!

I'm due to "get away" for a while and so I have convinced the "boss" that a trip to KC is in order. And so... since we are already going to be there anyway.... :) we might as well go to the AD! I am excited to see, in the metal, all the latest ......ah.... offerings from Breitling. I just hope there isnt something that really calls out to me, cause something will have to be sold from the current collection!

Updates afterwards. Wish me luck ... and self control! :lol:

Well that was a disappointing trip, for several reasons.

1) I didnt buy anything
2) the AD insulted me with a price number, when I inquired about trading in my (still under warranty) SA towards a used 111
3) in the metal the B01 isn't nearly as bad as in the pictures, but the bezel is still bad enough (for me) to not want one
4) they didnt have any of the other newer models in stock
5) I didnt find anything (Breitling) that jumped out at me
6) tried on a GMT IIc, Deepsea and DJ2 and although the heads are pretty darn nice, the taper on the bracelets just kill it for me. Maybe a week without a Breitling or my Bell & Ross, might make the Rolex bracelet issue dissappear, for me. It sure didnt help to have been wearing my SA all morning, prior to slapping on the Rollies. I will try again.

And my regular salesperson was working yesterday :(

so..... maybe next time, maybe not.

On to the unthinkable. We were wondering around a local mall, while we were there, and I did try on a couple watches that were pretty nice. And one brand's model, which I had previously snobbed..... has me interested now. This was the Tag Heuer Grand Carrera Chronograph Calibre 17 RS. It looked really nice in the metal, display back and decorated (somewhat) movement. The bracelet, although not anywhere as nice as Breitling's, was nice and the clasp was really nice. I may have to rethink the brand a bit.

The next one that might be on my "hit list" is an Oris. This jewel looks great on the wrist and being an Oris, offers a lot of watch for the money. The one they had was on a leather (like the picture) and except the fact that the butterfly clasp folds opposite to Breitlings... it was really comfy. And at a obtainable price of around $1700..Definitely on my list.

For what it's worth, I'd expect a fair price on a SA to 111 trade to be about $1000-1400 depending on the relative ages of both pieces. Used SA's under warranty cap out at about $2600 and a 111 can be had around $3500-$4000.

Don't do it! The Steelfish in black(or blue) and white are completely different watches. Both "must haves." Keep them.

I have that Oris BC4 Chrono - found it on amazon at a ridiculous price - about $1200. Haven't seen that kind of deal since. I got it on the bracelet and was very disappointed....until....I put it on the leather strap for my Sinn U2 and the watch just came alive. I am waiting on a semi-custom strap order from Bas and Loke in Australia - a brown vintage "Aviator." Should arrive next week and I think it will look great on the BC4. Since I put the Oris on leather it has received much more wrist time and wears much larger than it's stated size. Keeps good time. I really enjoy that watch. An amazing value even at $1700 IMO.

My Breitling AD also sells Tags and I have to admit I always take a brief look at the Grand Carerras. They do have something appealing to me.

I've tried on that grand carrera quite a few times and it's a great piece! I don't like then steel bracelet tho, I prefer it on croc. I think it's a little over priced but it's a really unique looking watch.

Dan, that is EXACTLY were I was in my mind. How about this nonsense. I was offered my SA (mint baton white dial, under warrant till Oct 2010) + $3200!! For a used 111 with a USED rubber and very well used croc strap!

I just about swallowed my tongue. This from an AD that I have bought 5 Breitlings, a few accessories and referred at least 2 people who purchased Breiltings. Just wasnt feeling the love. And to beat all that they sell a TON of watches every month, I mean this place is swamped everytime I go into it. If they would have thrown a realistic offer of my SA + $1000, I wouldnt own the SA anymore... but I wore that big ole dude HOME!

They didnt have it on croc but to tell you the truth, I didnt mind the bracelet. In fact I kinda liked the clasp on thier bracelet, very clean look to it.

Saw one in an AD on Friday. Didn't try it on (as we all know I am a watch snob), but was surprised how nice it looked.
