So I found an AD that has the new superocean in the color I want and am heading to the store now to buy it. She quoted me the basic prices depending on band, and said she doesn't discuss discounts over the phone.....this is my first Breitling though and I want to make sure I get a fair deal. I'll pay what is reasonable but would obviously like to save what I can.....can anyone offer some advice on what a "normal" discount for a watch like this would be?

Thanks.

Around 30% is a good discount in USA and Canada.

So what would be acceptable/expected in today's Breitling market? 20%? 25%

You should get at least 25%.

Might be hard to get that high of a discount on the new pieces. Play the game, don't act like you want it so bad, and make them come to your price.

Good luck with your purchase.

Since the new Superocean is on the lower end of pricing, you should be happy with 20% but there's no reason not to ask for 25%.

We have two AD here in Denver and I went to one yesterday just to check out a couple of models and the sales guy said they were not allowed to discount or they would lose the brand which he said they havent had for very long. I didnt want to call 'BS' as he was nice enough to give me a catalog but obviously I wont be buying there.
My dealings with George at Govberg have me satisifed enough to purchase another over the phone. I just wanted to try a couple on for size as my next Breitling cant be as chunky as the Emergency.

I was at a local AD a couple of days ago and I asked the guy what the best he could do for me was. "what do you mean?" I explained that I wanted to know what type of discount he could offer. "We dont discount" (in a snotty, 'how dare you' tone). I chose to call BS on him since ive dealt with the owner there before and was offered a very generous discount. This guy was either just a schmuck, or hard up on getting a giant commission. I explained politely that I found this to be strange, since ive been to like a dozen breitling dealers, and have never encountered one that didnt discount. He responded with a comment basically telling me that it sounded like I already had enough connections and probably didnt need any help from him. Then he went on to tell me that my "low priced" superocean II was a step in the right direction for breitling, and how affordable the ETA2892 inside of it was. "I think you mean 2824..." "No, it has a date window, which means its a 2892." LOL...ok, buddy. Then he walked away to help a couple who had a question about some type of stone in a ring that they were checking out, and I could hear the sales guy stuttering and stumbling over his words trying to BS his way through an answer.

So with help from this site and it's members I emailed BUSA and found a dealer in NJ within 10 miles of my house that supposedly had the new Superocean. I called and they did indeed have one. ONE. It was the blue one, which is what I wanted so I went to the store......long story short, I bought it. Retail was $2585 plus $160 for the standard black leather band and 7% sales tax.....I paid $2250 all in, which amounts to about a 25% discount.

Thanks for the help. If someone can tell me how to attach photos from iPhoto I will send some pics. I tried, but it's telling me the jpeg images are invalid.

I actually reached out to George on Justin's recommendation. he emailed me back and said they wouldn't be available in US stores for another 3-4 weeks.

I emailed BUSA about stores in my area that may have them and they responded with one store....that had one. Seems like only a select group of stores got a very limited early release.

Wow, I'd say you did very well!

Considering that the watch is a new model, and I can't even find it here in Los Angeles, I really didn't think that you'd get such a big discount! I'd say you done did well!

NOW... LET'S SEE IT!!!

Do you have Picasa 3? It's a free photo viewing program from Google, and it also has a website linked, so that you can easily upload photos to the website, but you'll need a Google account. All free.. google account, Picasa3, everything.

The thing is, you NEED a website where you can upload the photo. Then, simply upload the photos, open them in another window, right click and select "Copy Image Location"... then return to this site, and in your post, click on IMG and enter (paste) the address for the photos!

Hope this helps!

By the way, I thought the Superocean comes on either the rubber straps Diver Pro, Ocean Racer or the ss bracelet. You were able to purchase it with leather only?

Thanks, and again, congrats!

Thanks. Here's some photos......

As far as the leather band goes it doesn't say in the book that leather is an option, but as you can see it's an option.
