First, I know that I am biased.

I traded watches with a friend for the weekend. I gave up my TI Yellow Seawolf for an Aniversary Green Bezel Submariner. While the sub is a nice watch, it is no where near a Breitling in terms of wrist presence. I have been comparing it against my other Bs and the weight and overall size of the Rolie is not in the same league. I'm also not a big fan of the cyclops date. Overall, it is a nice watch, but I don't think I will ever buy one.

I would post some pics, but I also loaned the same person my camera. Perhaps I can post some tomorrow.

I live in Los Angeles, where you see Rolex watches on just about everyone!

They don't really do anything for me. Can't exactly explain why... maybe I've known too many older gents who all have Rolex, so I associate Rolex with old geezers?

I've looked at Omega, I own a Tag... I've checked out and like numerous other watches... but somehow Rolex does nothing for me.

To Rolex' defense, it's not a big watch, it's not supposed to be massive and oversized... it's their philosophy. Breitling has their own style.

Some big Invictas can have more impressive wrist presence than Rolex... creating a big and heavy watch is not an achievement in itself.

But I agree with you... totally understand what you mean... Breitling SA, Avenger and Steelfish all have incredible wrist presence and very high quality feel.

Ditto, on Rolex not doing "anything" for me. Seems everybody sports one though. Although years ago the DT, 18SS, Thunderbird, w/ Black Tapestry dial kinda PQed my fancy. 8) When people ask me, "that's a nice watch, what kind is it?" I tell'em Breitling; they almost always says, "never heard of them." I tell'em, "it's like a Rolex, but better." :lingsrock:

I like some of their pieces: Deepsea, Daytona. I wouldn't get one, though. They're too expensive for what I'd be getting (for me). My biggest problem is that too many people have them. Everybody and their brother has a Submariner; too common and too many fakes.

While looking at Omegas last weekend my AD showed me that green bezel Rolex (in their pre-owned stock). It was nice and all and offered at a special price to me of $4,000, but I just could not get past the "tinny" bracelet. I as well do not like that huge cyclops. My Chopards have a small cyclops set under the crystal and I like them fine, but the Rolex mag takes up about 1/5th of the crystal. Still I nearly bought it BECAUSE it was a Rolex. Glad now that I didn't.

I would consider a Deep Sea though. There is a watch with plenty of presence - and the crystal is too thick to accomodate a cyclops.

Pepsi GMT is my favorite Rolex... it has an extremely genius GMT movement, 3185 and lots of traditions behind it... and it's an aviator watch just like many Breits. It's just different.

I love my Breitling and Rolex... why limit our options?

I'm not a big fan of Rolex but I have nothing against them either. Since they don't do anything for me I just don't purchase them. I believe that a lot of people tend to wear them because Rolex is a "status" piece as much as it is a good quality watch. The old if you have a Rolex you have a little money in your pocket, etc, etc. So, while Rolex doesn't do much aesthetically for most, it does well enough with time keeping, stature improvement and resale!

Agree with most, except for solid gold Rolex. Can't be beat IMHO, if you were looking for a solid gold piece. Perfect balance of dressy & sporty. The only B close to it is the solid gold Emergency I feel.

Both are nice, Breitling wins on fit and quality finish, with an excellent feel. Rolex steel sports watches are timeless

I just picked up that same watch. Obviously, I like all of my watches, and I like them for different reasons. Compared to the SOHC, both the AS and the GMT disappear on the wrist. The GMT even more so.

What appeals to me the most about the GMT is the simplicity and the elegance of the watch face.

:yeahthat Very well said Palantas. It seems that in many cases people buy Rolex for status alone. Not so much because they love the watch, but because others will notice that they have a nice watch. One of the great things about Breitling IMO is that people will comment about how great the watch looks, but in many cases are not familiar with Breitling. Almost gives me the feeling of having a limited edition...

I had a Submariner LV for a while, but I ended up selling it as the cheap feeling hollow centre-links of the bracelet and the tin-foil clasp really bugged me. If I hadn't lusted after the LV for so long before I finally picked one up I would've got rid of it far quicker.

However, the new Rolex models have fantastic bracelets and clasps, and the SDDS is a must have IMO. The developments that Rolex have made in recent years has really dragged them into the 21st century, and they are all the better for that.

Like many here, I like all watches. I think I've literally had every Rolex model at some point. I was very excited about the DeepSea, but grew tired of it very quickly. This may not make sense, but 'it just didn't look right'. I actually just sold a 14060 on Timezone this week.

Anyway, it's comparing apples to oranges. I do still have an LV, I love the green, maxi dial, and it's classic yet slightly different look. I also (at this time) am planning on keeping the GMT II - Ceramic. The new bracelet and ceramic bezel give this piece an awesome look. It has a much better wrist presence and finish/fit than the other models I've owned.
