Post subject:  Skyracer?

Hi guys

I am considering a new Skyracer as my next purchase - it has to be soon, because I prefer the 2009-bezel-version and don't like the rubber inlays of the the new models.

What do present Skyracer maniacs say about this watch? Rugged enough for daily wear? The only thing that makes me hesitate is the fact, that the movment might be somewhat delicate. Maybe this is unjustified...

Any comment is appreciated.

V.

I don't think that the movement is delicate, what makes you think that?

The general consensus of the Skyracer was always that it was a very nice watch, but not necessarily as much value as the Aeromarine range. I think it would make a fine daily wearer.

had a black face on bracelet. nothing wrong with it at all, would be fine as a daily wearer. imo i would prefer the older b-2 at about 60% of cost. they wear very similar except the brushed/polished part.

Discontinued but you should still be able to find some at ADs.

I have a skyracer since good a year and very often carry her.
There never were problems but the watch is discontinued, I think.

It's discontinued? It's still on the site.

Yeah I noticed that. The Skyracer Raven was to continue, but the last I heard the regular one was to be discontinued as of this year.

They are always in the display of the 2 ADs I frequent - so readily available.

I have the silver and black dials and the Raven in grey/black subs. I think they are terrific watches. They are quite comfortable with a flatter caseback. My Raven is permanently on diver pro II/deployment and the black dial SR bounces from diver pro II/deployment to black croco to brown croco or calf. The white (silver) dial is IMO the nicest white dial Breitling. They are also very well lumed.

The movement is a bit higher end than some, but no indications it is delicate. The center second hand/minute totalizer is my favorite for actual chrono use.

But then, I am prejudiced.

I have had both the B-2 and now the Skyracer. Skyracer is much easier to read and I love the cambered crystal. Wears similar and is an easy watch to wear daily. Very tough, in my opinion. Bracelet is way better than the fighter bracelet on the B-2. I may be selling my soon, if you are interested, pm me.

I hope they keep it going with the Raven or otherwise. The Skyracer is a strong contender for my next watch. I like the unique chronograph indicators, and you've got the useful countdown bezel, and the sliderule.

The $1200 or so difference between the Avenger Skyland and the Skyracer seems to be it's downfall, but I feel the SR is worth every penny.

As soon as I wore one home I was in lust. I must confess I wasn't too sure about the Raven, but now it is by far the rubber strap watch I wear the most. And that has me toying with the Superocean - yellow or blue...hmmmm... Guess I'm just one of those "follow the brand" guys Breitling counts on.

The Skyracer uses Calibre 26, is this movement alot different to the famous Calibre 13? Is the 26 more expensive or difficult for servicing or problems?

Post subject:  Re: Skyracer?

Actually it's a caliber 27 - the caliber 26 is in the 125th Anniversary Navi.

It is more heavily jeweled than the 13 - but the cost of the movement doesn't make up the difference between the Skyracer and, say, Skyland which uses the 13. As for service costs, I'm told any difference would be negligable.

Thanks for your response, Sharkman.

I'm new with the Calibre 27, are there any known issues to it. I hear good things on the 13 but I got no idea on the 27.
