Hi all,

I'm a new poster here and new to the Breitling world. My wife just bought me a Brietling as a wedding present for me, however, she doesnt know much about watches. I have always liked the style and designs of Breitlings, but have never owned one nor know much about them. She has bought me a superocean steelfish, but have told me that I can go to the shop to change it for something else instead. I have always liked the navitimer edition but this is way too expensive. Guess my question is, besides the superocean steelfish, what other breitling watch models fits within the same price range? As this is a really nice gift, I would really like to see all options there are for me. I was even toying with the idea of getting an Omega instead? What would your advice be?

Thanks!

:welcome:

Congratulations on the wedding and I think your wife has picked very well!

IMHO, I think the SOSF gives the best bang for the buck at this price point and I personally would stick with it.

The only alternative I would suggest is that if you don't mind quartz rather than automatic, the Chrono Colt is the same price.

Visit the AD and try the alternatives by all means but I'd stick with the SOSF.

+1. I wouldn't exchange a gift at all.

... unless the one that gave the present tells you voluntarily that the watch is free for an exchange (knowing that this is of a highly personal taste, incl. dial colour and other factors). So if you do not like the SOSF go and see what's around at the AD. Keeping the SOSF is fine too. If chronograph is a must you'd look at the CSO - price difference is not as high as with the Navi, mainly on bracelets. Let us know what you decide!

Best, Robert

If the Steelfish fits your wrist, you should keep it. It's a awesome watch and is near or at the top of its class IMHO.

I'm new to Breitlings as well and my first Ling is a SOSF in Black. It is amazing, and I think at this price beats any other watch I've owned, Rolex, Omega, etc.
I'd take it over the Semaster any day as I think it the Ling has a better fit and finish, it is very hard to beat omega in the "Bang for Buck" catagory, but the SOSF does!

Also, no offense to anyone, but IMHO, I would never trade a clean looking Auto Like the SOSF for a Quartz Chrono.

Best of Luck!

The only Breitlings that will be in the same price range are probably going to be the time/date only models (maybe a couple of quartz as well). Chrongraphs are all going to be way over budget. Just go down to the store and see what you like. It really is that simple.

Keep the Steelfish, its the best watch for that money.
and since its the one your wife chose for you, it gives it a sentimental value.

Your wife actually made a very good choise. The Steelfish is a stunning piece and it really is alot of watch for the price. As you can see from the answers it´s a much liked piece here and for a reason. If it´s a good size for you and the dial color is to your taste, Then IMO why should you change it?

There´s even a nice story there of how good taste your wife had when choosing your watch as the wedding present! Just as she did when choosing you as her husband!

I would say at that price point you already have one of the best, I would stick with the steelfish, you could always change it up with an ocean racer of diver pro stap for a different look as well.

Thanks for all your replies. Since I have to go to the shop today to get the strap fitted to my wrist size, I'll take a look round anyway, but the SOSF does look AMAZING. Thanks for all your post and I'll come back to let you all know what the end result is!

:welcome: to B-saurce congrats on the wedding and you have a great wife...A watch is a very personal type of jewelry for a man personally i would definitely get it the way i want it....But a gift is a gift if your wife is cool enough to understand the reason you wanna exchange it then i would go for the superocean chrono or non, those are great watches and should be a little more but you get alot more also.... just my 2 cents take care

I have yet to come across a watch that rivals the Steelfish for presence, style and cost. There is really nothing like it for the cost IMO.
