Hi everyone, I posted yesterday that I was considering buying a pre-owned Breitling from an AD. Well - all of your posts definitely pushed me over the edge and I am going to do it! Here is my quesion - what should I look for in the box and papers to make sure that the watch is real, legitimate, etc. I am buying a Breitling Bentley Motors. Is there a specific box that should come with it? Is there anything specific about the papers that I should be looking for? I know the guy is an AD, but I just want to be 100% sure. Thanks! Lindsay |

The serial numbers should match between the watch and the booklet. Also, although this might seem obvious, make sure the instruction manual is for the watch you're buying. |

If you're dealing with an authorized dealer you do not have to worry about whether not to watch is fake. |

Have a look at this thread from a couple of days ago in the replica section http://www.breitlingsource.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=18605 Whilst I agree 100% there should not be any doubts when buying from an AD, the more you familiarise yourself with both the gen and the replica the more relaxed you will be about your purchase. |

I would generally have agreed that if buying from an AD you are okay.........until the thread somebody posted the other day at WUS. He bought a fake pre-owned chronomat from his AD, and neither one was aware that it was fake until after it was posted on the forum and it was pointed out. He got his money back, but it just goes to show that even an AD can be duped when buying a pre-owned watch from a customer. Definitely make sure that the serial number on the watch matches the warranty booklet and COSC certificate. |

Thanks for all of the responses! Ok - so I am very new to this whole watch purchase thing, but am learning quite a lot thanks to these boards! I realized that the guy I am working with is not an AD, he is a jeweler that has been selling Breitlings for years and years, so I just assumed he was an AD. I now realize he would probably be considered "grey market". I am going on Saturday to check out the watch, papers, etc. My question is - what do you think about buying a second hand watch that is 100% authentic, but might not have the original AD stamp? I am not sure where the watch was first bought or if it has the stamp. I am just asking in case I go on Saturday and find that it does not have the stamp. Thanks in advance! Lindsay |

I've bought a number of used watches from non authorised sources - as a vintage collector you often have no choice. If the dealer stamp is not present then it's not really a problem, that often happens, but the warranty should be perforated with the dealer name (back cover). Unstamped / dated warranties can be a problem for warranty, but the watch is out of warranty now anyway, so not an issue. |
