Would somebody please tell me where to look to find the serial number on an 18k Chronomat Vitesse? I know the model ref. is on the back of the case but I can't seem to be able to locate the serial no.
SOS :cheer:

Should be right under the model number, here is a link to a photo of the caseback of a Chronomat Vitesse on this website

Thnx for the feedback Sparwood. As can be seen (or not as would be the case) in the picture, there is no serial no. on my caseback. I fear it may have been polished off intentionally....
Please voice your opinions as I'd really like to dispel any doubts. :?

Doesn't look like any Breitling case back I've seen. But I'm still pretty new.

I could be wrong but I believe that with its age and since its a solid gold model that the serial number format is different, i.e "820" or "1 820." But...ill wait for a more enlightened one to chime in... :geek:

That case back is from Chronomat, not a Vitesse.
I also believe in RJ's theory.

I thank you all for helping me with this. I had doubts myself about the 1 820 but didn't think a Breitling serial no. would be comprised of only 4 digits. It's a pity there isn't a Breitling serial no. online database, or is there?
I just recently bought it on the biggest source for (genuine and fake) wristwatches, eBay; hence my apprehension regarding it's origin (and authenticity). I'll be flying from Paris (where I live) to Istanbul to pick it up from a shop in the Grand Bazaar (more reason for concern some might say) this coming Tuesday.
I've uploaded a few more pictures so that you can get back to me about it's age. The seller hasn't a clue (but dutifully chucked in 2006 anyway) and the research I conducted leads to believe that it's from around 95-96? Can anyone tell me for sure? The exact model would also be helpful as I until now mistakenly took it for a Chronomat Vitesse which apparently it is not. I know that mine is fitted with the B13 caliber Valjoux 7750 and that not being COSC certified it must date prior to 2000.
Finally, a confession that will no doubt draw me immeasurable amounts of wrath, ire, rotten tomatoes and :guns: on this most sacrosanct of Ling forums (could this be committing online suicide?). Wait for it....
....until recently I didn't really even like Breitlings.... thought they were too ostentatious. Then I saw the B01 on a friend... then I fell head over heels for my one. Only fools don't change their minds :D

for me it's a really gold chronomat, and yes, the 4 digits serial number could be right because 18kt gold cases are producing in a small number unity than the steel cases.

p.s: a really nice chronomat...could i ask you the price?

It's real Arabics Chronomat (not a Vitesse) from around 93-94.

There isn't any way to date / identify watches by serial number. Since the 'new' Breitling came into being in the early 80s serial numbers have been random - only Breitling can provide details.
