Does anyone know if it's possible to send a Navitimer back to Breitling for service and have them switch the dial out for one of a different color. For example if the one you have is silver with numbers could you send it back and have them change it to a black dial with the notches? And how much it would cost?

Has been discussed at length in the not too distant past. Has to be done with the cost of a service, used to be (seriously)expensive, but there have been reports of it becoming cheaper recently. There are a couple members on here who have had it done, maybe they'll chime in with a price. I think your AD should be able to contact Breitling for a quote.

Yes, it's possible but Breitling insist on a full service when they do it. Couple of examples quoted on here...

Super Avenger: £490 for the dial and £270 for a full service

Legende: £613.77 for the dial and £310 for a full service

Also seems to only be considerably cheaper with discontinued models.

I inquired about this very topic directly through Breitling USA. They can't quote a price until they receive the watch but they said it starts at a minimum of $600 because a full service must be performed...regardless if it is still under warranty. They will change the dial and put on new hands. $600 is a bit steep in my opinion.

Totally agree – with modern movements properly lubricated during manufacture with synthetic oils there is no need for a service for 5, 7…I’d even suggest, 10 years.

The only expense in changing a dial should be the dial cost, a new set of hands, and labour. Maybe USD $400 – but that’s it. Anything else is profiteering.

To get to the dial and hands the movement must be removed, then put back together, lubricated, and sealed so I can understand why a full service is needed. I wouldn't suggest doing this unless your watch is up for it's next service then the cost is a little easier to swallow.

Yes and no.

The movement needs to be removed from the watch, but it doesn't need to be disassembled. Slightly simplistic I know, but a dial replacement in and of itself shouldn't create a need for a full service if done in a clean environment.

To remove the dial you have to remove the hands, to remove the hands you have to disassemble the movement, well at least most of it... no??

Don't think so. I think the hands just pull off from the stem.

The process follows:
1. Remove the case back.
2. Release and remove the stem. Depending on the movement it's released by a screw or by depressing a spring.
3. Remove the movement from the case.
4. Remove the hands and all sub bits (small chrono counter and seconds hands).
5. Loosen the dial foot screws. If there is a spacer on the movement, it might need to come off to gain access to the screws.
6. Remove the dial.

That's as far as you need to go with the disassembly.

Reverse the process to reassemble.

Pressure test when done.

It's the steps after that that still cause me troubles

$600 does seem steep to me however if that including the service which is just over $520 or so it, would appear that its only about $80 which seems cheap to me if the watch needed to go in anyways for service, is this right or is it $600 on top of the $520 making it $1120 which is really steep lol?

It's $600 PLUS $520 (or whatever the specific prices may be).

It's cheaper to go on eBay, sell the one you have and buy a replacement.
