Post subject:  Blue dial or white dial colt automatic II?

Hi,

Here in Scandinavia we have a lot if snow in winter and thousands of lakes so I thought that my new watch should have white or blue dial. posting.php?mode=post&f=1#
I have seen the white dial live i my nearest Breitling shop but they did not have the blue dial alternative. So I am asking how do the blue dial look in live pictures (neutral light)? The white is beautiful. Is the blue light or dark, does it vary....

Best,

Does your Breitling AD have any Colt II Quartz or SuperOcean Steelfish with blue dial on stock? If they do, then check out those models, because AFAIK they share the blue dial colour and shade with the Colt II Automatic.

BTW, my Colt II Quartz has a steel blue dial, but its shade highly varies as lighting changes. It is due to the AR-coating used on the sapphire crystal (both sides). AR-coating gives the crystal a purplish-blue hue that constantly changes depending on the amount of direct light hitting the crystal. The AR-coating makes black dial watches look purple sometimes, and it makes blue dial watches appear in a very wide spectrum of blue, from steel blue to water blue.

A couple of suggestions:

1) Check out the Colt GMT (not the GMT+ model!) in white. IMHO it looks way better in white than the Colt II Quartz or the Colt II Automatic, due to the applied arabic numbers. It looks very classy on both brown leather strap and the all-polished Pro II bracelet.

2) If you like blue dials, make sure to check out the SuperOcean (the 2008/2009 model) in blue. It has a stunning shade of blue compared to the bit grayish steel blue of the Colt range (and the Steelfish). The SuperOcean is a bit more expensive than the Colt II Automatic, but it's larger, thicker, heavier and has a wonderful wrist presence -- especially with blue and black dial.

3) When you're at an AD, ask the salesperson to let you bring the watch closer to the shop window, hence you can check the dial shade with less jeweller's spot lights hitting its crystal. And if the AD is not in a mall, that also gives you a chance to check out the dial shade under natural lighting.

Have fun, the hunt is the best part of watch purchase :cheer:

Here's a shot of my Colt II Quartz made under bright sunlight.

Here's a couple of shots of the SuperOcean 2008/2009 model. Not my pictures, I've found them on one of the watch forums.

As you can see, it's a very different shade of blue to the Colt II Quartz's. It has a sort of metallic colour treatment on the dial, which AFAIK no other blue dial Breitling has.

Thanks for a very rapid answer!!!

I like the Colt automatic II because it isn't so thick. I am a watchmaker and also a watchfreak... It is not so common here in Scandinavia that watchmakers collects watches. I would like to use the watch when I am working at my bench. That's why the size of colt II is perfect.

The blue color is a favorite color and I have seen the superocean blue dial. It is has fantastic depth in the color but it is too thick for my purpose.

I will be buying the watch soon!

Best,

FWM
