Post subject:  Avenger Seawolf Ti- HELP!

First, I should introduce myself before asking for help.

I am (obviously) a new member of the forum here. I have lurked for quite some time reading up, but the time has come to purchase my first Breitling. I have had other quality time pieces prevously, but currently only have two in the stable. One is a COSC Certified Tag Aquaracer Chrono I have had a little over a year and then my beater Luminox I wear when riding the fire truck or ambulance part time.

While visiting my local AD the other day (I had taken my mother in to look at anniversary gifts for my dad, which ended up being a Steel/Platinum Yachtmaster) I was talking with the salesman and looking at the Breitling counter. He advised me they had a 2008 Avenger Seawolf Ti in 97%+ condition they had taken in on trade as well if I was interested.

Being interested, which I was, as I like watches I am not afraid to wear and enjoy wearing everyday, I looked at the watch, it fits well and I really liked the overall look of the non chrono dial. I also liked the light weight of the titanium case and bracelet.

The price they were asking was $2000, but he advised if I decided I wanted it, he could work with me significantly as they have had it about 6 months.

So my question to you is, what should be a fair offer? I obviously would like to be frugal as that leaves more in the budget for my next purchase, but I also want to ensure that I maintain a good relationship with the AD and not be "that guy".

I have seen pricing across the board, from as high as $2400ish down to $1550 (http://forums.watchuseek.com/showthread.php?t=379051 for a non bracelet version.

Any help you guys can give is appreciated as I would like to move on it this week if I decide to go ahead with the purchase. Also, any issues I would need to look for or consider with the Ti version?

Thanks again,
Charles

Not an expert on these pieces, but I'll draw a line in the sand for people to agree / disagree with.

I think that $2,000 is far from an awful price, but $1,700 - $1,800 is a little more realistic.

First, the TI Seawolf is an awesome watch. I am wearing mine right now. Second, if the watch comes with all paperwork and is coming from a third party (dealer) and he already mentioned significant helping, then I would agree with Roff and offer $1,700 - $1,800 and see what it gets you. It may get you a great deal on a great watch. That offer should leave room to buy another strap!!

Also, what color is the dial?

You're never going to get rock bottom prices from a dealer, but then you know (or hope) they would never supply a fake.

I would probably be aiming around the $1800 mark max if its mint. Would be more tempted if it has the Pro2 bracelet with spare links. Should be 3 removable links each side of the clasp.

Hey guys, thanks very very much for the response so far.

To answer some of your questions or curiosity...when I was in the AD a second time with my dad getting them to put an extra link in his Yachtmaster, I spoke with the rep and inquired further about the watch. This was the second time I had looked at it and when he told me he would work with me significantly he mentioned "we could probably do 20% or $1600", which would be right in line with what you guys are saying would be a "deal"

What I was wondering, if I purchased it at $1600, I would still have tax. My thought was offer $1500 tax included and accept $1500 plus tax, which here is 7% and that would make it $1605 out the door. I mainly wanted to make sure I would be ok putting that money into it and that I am not looking at a $1200ish watch or something. I guess money talks and bs walks, so you guys have any issues with that qouted pricing?

My main concern is not about a smoking deal as I would not be looking to flip it, but would want to wear it and use it and no reason to put too much into it either. They had taken it in on trade from a regular customer after selling it to him new, so this dealer knows its history if you will and has all of the appropriate paperwork, box, etc.

It does have a black dial (only one I personally would want) and it does have what I believe to be the Pro II style bracelet. This is a picture I found on google images of exactly what it looks like, bracelet/dial and all. EDIT: it also has multiple removable links on both sides of the clasp. I would guess around 3 on each side, because I recall it being too big for my wrist and making the comment I would need to size it.

Thanks again for help so far and a preliminary thanks for any more input you guys may have!

I'm not sure that $1,500 taxes in will do it from an AD, but it's worth a try - the worst that he can say is no

I agree, but worth a shot since he qouted me $1600 without any request on pricing. I will keep you guy posted when I get back in town and can get by there on Friday.

Thanks again for the help so far! I look forward to learning more from you all and contributing here myself!

Id imagine that they paid much less than $1500 for it, and at this point just want to get rid of it since its discontinued and has been sitting around for a while. $1500 all in is like 30% off which isnt crazy, so id take a stab at it for sure. They know youre serious since you already bought a Rollie, and would probably be happy to have you as a repeat customer.

BTW, this all assumes that the watch is in great condition and comes with the Pro II. $1500 with tax would be a great deal.
