I am getting a SS Navitimer Heritage black dial with black leather band,
I would like to hear some thoughts to help me make up my mind on...
1. Smooth Leather or Croc
2. Deployment or Tang
I realize its a matter of choice but I'd like some input especially about the deployment clasp, never had one in leather.

I much refer a deployant over tang.. Extends the life of the strap and looks better IMO.

I've seen the Navi on brown calf and it looks great.

Definitely deployment for me and I prefer smoother leathers personally. Black or brown calf would look great. Congratulations on the upcoming acquisition

I have heard that the leather straps take a really long time to break-in and become comfortable...is this what most people have experienced with leather straps ?

By the way, you guys are right about the Brown Croc...it really is a beauty with black dial. gives it some pop !

The Breitling deployant is really good - much better than any other deployant I have tried. It just clicks shut and there is no strap end to put in a loop or anything like that. It's very secure and I've never had mine come undone accidentaly.

I do wish that they would finish the leather strap with a point like on a tang buckle. Not a very long end where u have to put it through a loop just a little one. Know what I mean?

Another vote for deployant from me. The leather takes a couple of weeks to break in because of the thickness.

I totally agree. My wife almost lost her gold Bucherer by not having a deployant strap.

Furthermore, the deployant prevents the watch from turning over when you wear it. And, it is a supplemental precaution from thieves.

Croc/Leather Deploy for me always.

Just gone back to metal for the hot season.........

Deployant all the time for me because of the infinite adjustability and the fact that it extends the life of the strap.......... and it looks more classy IMHO too.

Calf or Croco depends on the size of your wallet (as the croco is 3 to 4 times the amount) and also the look you are going for. Croco dresses a watch up quite a bit, whereas calf can look more casual and utilitarian. Apart from the cost, it's all down to choice.

Not only it looks more classy but it puts the watch much more "forward" than a steel or a TT bracelet. And, to my opinion, with a gold bracelet the watch is less "visible".

Because you don't have to pull on the strap each time you put your watch on.

Navi Heritage has integrated bracelet, it's some other model if you'll get it on the leather.

Adjust it to where you are comfortable, take a warm shower with it (yes you read it right) and keep it on your wrist overnight. The next morning it will be perfectly broken in....
I know someone (on this board) who has already tried this and said it WORKED!
Everytime I get the urge to try it I back out... Something doesn't seem right...

Has anyone else tried/heard of this before?
