Hello, can anyone please tell me what all of the extra numbers on a watch are for? And how to use the bezel ect.? If you look at the cosmonaute for example, it is covered in numbers. what do i need all of these for? Thanks for the help |

On the Navitimer series you'll see a pretty busy dial. What you see on the outer most edges a slide rule. A slide rule is a precurser to the calculator. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slide_rule On this type of watch, the slide rule was used to perdorm in-flight calculations. A history of the original slide rule bezel is here:http://forums.watchuseek.com/showthread.php?t=9103 The next set of numbers in are the typical hours/minutes. The cosmonaut has a 24 hour dial, meaning 12 noon is the in the usual 6 o'clock position. The sub-dials you see will be related to the chronograph. Small seconds, and elapsed minutes and hours are the usual. |

This may be of some benefit to you as well in understanding the slide rule aspect of the watch. http://www.breitlingsource.com/articles ... rule.shtml |

ok thank you, and there is just 1 more set of numbers that i can't figure out what are for. i think it might correspond with the slide rule. but instead of being numbers it is times, so the first to the right is 1:10 then 1:20, 1:30,... up to 2:00 then 2:30, 3:00, 3:30...5:00, 6:00, 7:00, 8:00, 9:00. how do these work, is it for multiplying time? and a question about the 24 hour watch face, does the second hand and the minute hand go around once or 1/2 every minute/hour? |

The times do relate to the slide rule - it's explained in the link that br549 provided. Second hand goes around once per minute, minute hand goes around once per hour, it's just the hour hand that is geared differently. |
