Sorry if its been debated already but as I understand it, the 121.5 Mhz emergency frequency ceases to be monitored after 2008, will breitling change their lineup accordingly or (hopeful) sell off the emergency models at a discount.

Only asking because now I have my first ling, I'd identified a yellow dial Emergency as my next target.......when funds allow....

To be honest, I'll never probably use the emergency function though I do sometimes go hiking/sking in pretty remote areas but that watch has looks to die (or not!) for.....gotta get one!

My understanding is that 121.5 MHz will still be monitored, but not by satellite.

COSPAS-SARSAT will discontinue its 121.5MHz locator service in February 2009, in large part due to the high false-alarm rate, leading to concerns that aircraft equipped with the 121.5MHz ELTs will have fewer chances of being found after an accident. COSPAS-SARSAT will continue to monitor the 406MHz signal.

The 406MHz alternative, priced at about $1,000 compared with the $200-$500 range for the 121.5 ELT, not including installation, has a lower potential for false alarm due to a stronger signal and digital datastream that provides contact details for the owner. For rescuers, the 406MHz system also provides crash locations accurate to 2-5.5km (1-3nm) compared to 22-28km for the 121.5MHz ELT.

No problem.

The accuracy of the 406mz is amazing.....The cost is rather expensive but when your life is on the line it wouldn't matter.

It won't be long before it's manditory for all aircraft to have it.

I'm not sure that the beacon strength of an Emergency / Emergency Mission would be enough for a satellite to pick it up anyway so this is a purely academic change from a Breitling perspective (although obviously not for other beacons).
