Just sat here wondering why Breitling havent improved the classic icon by giving it a decent water resistance. I realise they have stayed true to the original design, but they could have incorporated the very clever bezel / slide rule design from the Bentley series giving better water tightness whilst still keeping the Navi look ?
Is this a price point issue, or packaging (I assume the Bentley bezel is geared ?) which would make the Navi bezel too wide.
Or is it simply that the Navi series just doesnt need to be water resistant as its marketed more as a pilots watch.
Any thoughts ?

Most pilots, including myself, don't want to end up in the drink!

It would be nice to have better water resistance on all the Navitimer models, but I usually wear my Submariner when hitting the pool or going diving.

Apparently the design of the bezel with the crystal makes water resistance a real problem. The Navi is the most traditional of all Breitlings, so I guess they just want to keep as much of that tradition going by not going for a geared version of the bezel. The geared version would (as you quite rightly said) more than likely result in a thicker bezel surround, which would again change the design slightly. I guess Breilting just assume that people who want a Navi will be looking for something traditional in style rather than an all-round everyday watch. I think they correctly assume that the Navi will appeal to afficionadoes and if people want a dive equiped watch they will also buy something from the Aeromarine range. The 30m water resiatnce doesn't bother me at all as I simply just don't wear my Navi where it might get wet.
