I have a suggestion for the BUY/SELL/TRADE part of the site. I have noticed lately a few to many of the "new" members with 1-5 posts that have been posting items for sale in this section and others that have been members for less then one month posting items for sale in the section. I think that site Admin should impose a 30 day wait after joining and a 15 post minimum in other parts of the site before one can place an item for sale. The Rolex Forum has rules very similar to this, and it seem to work well. Just my 2cents. :poke:

FYI...Just ordered a Brand new Chronomat black dial and black subs with romans on pilot.
Should be here in 3-4 days. :lingsrock:

I support this idea.

While this wouldn´t guarantee that the seller is legit, it would definitely make life harder for those with dishonest intentions.

What if you've frequented other sites, like timezone (and others) - and have a great trading record and a bunch of posts? Are you still required to wait a whole month before you can post your watch for sale? I've noticed that sometimes, buying or selling a watch is exactly what gets people engaged in the forum!

Would a better approach be for Breitling Source to charge a small donation fee for posting sales immediately? Users who donate some amount would get priority to post to the buy/sell/trade forum and those who don't wait 15 days.

Anyway, I think it's relatively easy to spot the scammers. Of course, now that I've said that I'll get scammed! Hahahaha.

I don't think this really solves anything and only has the effect of preventing good sellers from selling here.

When a seller posts a watch for sale, the first thing I do is look at their join date, number of posts, and what they've posted. Everyone else should be doing the same. Don't expect the operators of this site to be your nanny.

I agree with the above post. It is the buyers responsibility to make sure the seller is legit. I know I sold my SA with a relatively low post count ( a little under 100). I sold it to a guy with hardly any posts at all. After exchanging emails and pm's we become comfortable with each other and the deal went smoothly.

I feel the mods do a fantastic job keeping this place neat and friendly. Sometimes I check out some other forums but they do not compare with THE SOURCE. Their is a ton of great information here and the environment is friendly, what else could you ask for?

I agree that it is up to the buyer and seller to work things out. I also understand it is up to the buyer to make sure they are dealing with a legit seller. I was just throwing a suggestion out there. The reason for the suggestion was that I recently joined the Rolex Forum and this is the policy that they use. I just thought it offered another level of protection to buyers and sellers. Most scammers will not wait 30 days to seller a fake watch or collect payment and not send the item, and they will not take the time to make 15 posts.

I essentially started on a few watch forums through selling and buying some timepieces. I know this has been discussed before, but one thing I did to overcome any concerns about my post count and credibility was to provide as much information about myself as possible. I shared phone numbers, email addresses, took phone calls, provided additional photos, provided references...whatever was necessary to make the buyer comfortable with me. At the end of the day, I know this transparency helped people get comfortable and allowed the deals to go through. As we've all seen countless times, if someone doesn't want to provide this level of cooperation they might not be legit.

What I really hate is when a new member posts a watch for sale without any pics and says,
"please e-mail me for pics". Thats an instant turn off for me. I just move to the next one.

Maybe its just me but I feel much more comfortable when other members get to see the watch for sale.

I would have to say that while this is not a bad idea for many sites it will not curb a thief by any means. One thing that I have come to understand about this site is that it is free for all users and the people here seem to look out for one another and enjoy a common interest together. To limit people may not be a bad thing it just doesn't go with the flow of this site and or its members. In fact For the time I have been around I havn't even seen anything other than other members drop a comment or two about something that looks fishy in order to let it known to others maybe to stay away. Sometimes as in the case of bonedoc and the obama watch I get a really good ten minute laugh out of something as simple as "SPAM ASS"... Damn thats still funny. Any how I don't believe admin is actively seeking donations on this site for any use of it including taking his time to answer your questions. Just enjoy and be careful as you and others said they have been. Just :D and try to  a little.

Well now......

This forum is deliberately not like some other places, and we are proud of that fact.

We are also a small community compared to TZ and WUS, but we are attracting new people all the time, and some of those will want to trade.

We provide a place for that to be done and we try to police as much as possible that people play by the rules - I haven't had an abusive PM from a seller for 3 days now so I must be doing something right.

Post minimums will simply result in a lot of 'Me too!' posts, and a time minimum will just delay a post.

If anyone on here buys a watch from a member with one post, no photos and no references then I think that's the buyer's problem, not the seller's.

I tried for a while to advise sellers to post pictures but got fed up with the 'I know what I'm doing' and 'I said e-mail me' replies - if they can't figure out that it doesn't work then I'm not going to worry.

I speak as a member, not as an 'official' position.

Well said Roff I think you should buy the seller no matter what else you do, References are great but not a cast iorn guarantee I know sellers with good reps who have gone bad and the other way round, The best thing to do is too get as much information as poss and a lot of trust can be built up or destroyed depending on the answers given, There is never going to be perfect system unless every deal was face to face as people have different ideas on condition etc etc but I would never buy a watch without seeing pics and I agree 100% people who post poor pics or who dont post pics at all are not going to be selling anything to me. Put some effort into your posts and it will be rewarded put no effort in and get nothing back. :nana:

I will always pass on my full contact details before completeing any large deal so they know exactly where to come should thing go wrong.

x2. Plus then there is a public documenting of the watch. If things go south there is something in the public domain showing what was claimed. Plus, it lets Sharky and Newbs see the watch and cry foul if needed! 8)
