Heard yesterday that Breitling only sold about 160,000 pieces in the 2009 model year. Does that sound right? I know the economy is bad, but I had thought I had seen before that Breitling usually moves about 300,000 pieces a year? Any info on this guys???

Keith

Where did you hear this number?

Not sure where one would find sales figures.... Breitling a private company and they aren't required to release that kind of information.

As Iantheklutz says, as a private company Breitling don't release sales figures.

Production numbers for 2009 will be available later this year because the COSC releases number of certifications by make and Breitling submits all watches for certification. That won't be the same as sales numbers, but it will be close and those numbers will come out around August.

For 2008 Breitling production per COSC was around 290,000. I suspect that 2009 numbers will be down because of the economy, but I seriously doubt that it will have dropped that low.

Roff,

I thought right around 300,000 was right for Breitling per year. But if 160,000 is correct, then wow that is a huge drop off in sales, but would not be out of the ordinary for the past 12 months with the world economy. The 160K number came from an "in the know person," but sometimes we all like to talk out of a$$es, so who knows. Guess we will find out in August.

Breitling may not release sales figures; however, COSC figures are available and all Breitlings are COSC certified, hence the known quantity on Breitling production numbers.

Breitling scaled back on production as a precautionary measure based on the world economy. It's financial moves like this capable of a privately held company that will enable Breitling to stay competitve in the world luxury watch market...

If that figure is correct then I think alot of people are wanting to buy second hand or part exchange instead of buying new. Although I dont think Breitling would release their sales figures, for obvious reasons, Id like to bet it hasnt been their best year figures wise.
