Post subject:  Breitling Deployment Clasp/Buckle Question???

Hello,

I just purchased a Breitling Croco Strap ref. 717p, size 19/16mm. I believe this strap was made for the deployant buckle based upon the information I have gathered from this site. I know it is an odd size, but I got a sweet deal on it and was thinking about wearing it with my montbrillant navi lug size 20mm. Fortunately, I found a seller online with a Breitling deployant buckle, size 20/18mm. My question is whether or not my 19/16mm will fit properly with the 20/18mm deployant buckle. I'm sure the 19mm vs 20mm won't be an issue, but will the end 16mm vs the 18mm end cause an issue with the watch staying secure on my wrist?

Thanks in advance for answering this question...

Hmmmm, difficult one to know for sure without trying it out. I guess the answer is that it might. The Breitling deployant is a friction-fit device, so if the strap is 2mm narrower than it should be there is a high possibility that it might not have enough friction to stay secure. And even if it is to start off with, it will definitely get looser over time. As you already have it it's probably worth a try..... or you could try flipping it for a proper 20/18mm instead.

I think that Driver8 is correct.

Most of the hold is on top of the strap so it will likely be fine to start with, but as it will allow side to side movement there will be wear that will reduce the ability for the clasp to hold the strap securely.

Thanks for the help. I think I'll wait for a 16mm folding deployment clasp before making a move on something we're not sure of (patience, patience). Funny story, I bought a cheap rubber strap from kmart and put that on my montbrillant and literally watched the thing fly off my wrist and hit the concrete after a weeks' use. I should have learned then that wrong size or non-oem accessories do not work well with these heavy duty watches...
