Post subject:  Strap and tang buckle question

I posted a WTB for a tang buckle, but also had a few questions.
Despite seeing on this site that a tang buckle is only $25, my AD wants to charge me "$100-$150" for it. I'll pass. I'm putting an after market croc strap on my Heritage 46, but would like to use a Breitling tang buckle. My local jeweler and family friend said he can install the buckle onto the strap. I assume all tang buckles are the same size? As far as the strap goes, the Heritage straps go from 24mm at the lugs to 20mm at the buckle right? The reason I ask is I need to be sure the size of the buckle before ordering the strap. I'm pretty sure the Breitling crock and leather straps taper down while the rubber, non-deployment are straight 24mm? If I am incorrect, any info would be much appreciated.

The tang buckles come in different sizes. 14/16mm, 18mm and 20mm. As far as the price you are correct. It's $25.00 for SS and I would find another AD if they are charging more than the stated list price. OR for SOH is 24mm at the lugs. Not sure if there is a taper but I would think there must be. Someone else coud probably say.

Sounds like your AD must be quoting for a Calf leather strap and tang buckle, well I would hope so at that price.

I wouldn't worry too much about the diver pro buckle widths as they are designed for rubber straps and will shred your leather.

Breitling straps really are superb and generally worth the extra $ I've tried after market here in the UK and was disapointed. Hirsch have a pretty good name, but the strap went loose around the spring bars :| Also Edge varnishing can be really crap on after market stuff and cracks off. Superbly bonded on Breitling straps

So what size buckle is on the crock/leather 24mm straps for the heritage? That would be the size tang buckle I need. My buddy is ordering the strap. If it doesn't fit the watch properly, he said he can return it and I don't have to buy it.

Thanks! Is there a difference between the buckles used on the leather straps and the ones used on the rubber straps. Someone mentioned that the rubber strap buckle would ruin the croc strap?
