Hi, I am on the edge of pulling the trigger on a cockpit. I am just a bit worried that I am too young to pull of such an expensive watch?
I am 21 and still at university...not the typical student purchase by any means...

what do you reckon?

I have no way of knowing your current financial status but my advice would be this. Don't put yourself in debt. If you have the means to buy the watch outright without encumbering yourself with debt, have your other current financial obligations met, and have the means to meet your future financial obligations and have some money left over and in savings then I would say yes. Otherwise if it were me I would wait until I could meet the above criteria. Of course that's just me.

+1 to what br549 said. Unless you have zero debt(student loans, car payments, etc), skip the watch. Save the money. I only started buying expensive watches once I was well established and I had plenty saved.

hey just my input here but im am 20 years old, going on 21 in june. I am also a full time college student. I dont know your fiancial situation like has been said above. I myself also have a full time , well estbalished job and currently own a super avenger and a datejust. Dont buy something you cant afford, or possible buy now and put yourself into trouble in the future. Always have saved for a rainy day. I hope all works out well, hard work pays off. Just my 2 cents

Cockpit is a beautiful watch, if you can afford it i dont see why age should come into it.

PS what cockpit you looking to purchase?

In terms of the watch itself, then there is no reason at all to assume you'd be too young to carry it off. It's a beautiful piece whatever age you are, and IMO there's no age limit to owning a nice watch.

In terms of whether you can afford it, well thats a different matter and something that only you can answer. To echo the others, if it was me I wouldn't put myself in debt for it as a student. When I was a student I had enough trouble affording food while trying to fund a student sized drinking habit at the same time! However, unlike some of the guys here I'm not against using credit if you're earning. Credit is fine IMHO as long as you are sensible about it and don't over-extend yourself. But that's just me....... and to be honest, I don't have any watches on credit myself.

The key is to do your sums, err on the side of caution, and don't be tempted to push the funds further that you can afford. If you think you can afford a Cockpit, don't get caught up in the moment and find yourself coming away with a Bentley on credit!

That said (and back to the original question), if paying for it is not a problem, then at 21 you could absolutely carry off a Cockpit!

Here's my opinion based on my situation...

I am 22. I bought myself a Navitimer at 21 because I had wanted one for several years and finally had the cash to do it. I am a senior in college majoring in engineering, and I've had a few high profile internships and jobs where I've made pretty good money. After my last summer of working (on the other side of the country) I felt like I deserved a reward for working so hard for such a long time. I had also scrapped up enough money to buy my Navi on my own without going into debt and still having my savings for a rainy day.

Now, that being said, I'm probably not your typical student. I've gotten a few scholarships and have managed to get through without any school loans. Also, as mentioned, I've been making bank as an engineer for a while. I'm also not really into the drinking and partying scene.

I figured it up once, and I have a buddy that spends ~$20-$30 a week on booze, sometimes more. Over the course of a college education, that more than pays for my Navitimer, and I have something to show for my money at the end of the day. I don't want to sound like a prude, but I don't do that, and that's one way I rationalized my purchase.

However, only you can decide if you can afford it. I wouldn't go into debt for it. Period. The best part of being our age is being able to live without debt if you do things right. So many of my friends get forced into jobs they hate by buying things they can't afford and becoming dependent on debt and credit cards.

Not true! He'll have a rock-hard liver to show for it!

I'd echo was Driver 8 was saying and agree that you can "pull it off". It wouldn't look absurd wearing one to class. A few of my classmates and I used to talk about watches for 5-10 minutes before class every week.

What would be absurd is foregoing books, incurring undue debt, and/or living in a box to pay for a watch.

Good luck with your decision!

The watch itself is extremely versatile - it will look good with anything so no issues there.

Not much I can add to the financial decision that hasn't already been said.

Thanks for all your input.
I can definately afford this watch without going into debt/ financially ruining myself... but i guess i would feel almost guilty for spending the money.

do any of you ever feel like this?

What can I tell you? the Cockpit it's a wonderful piece.

I have to agree with most people here, there's no age established. Make sure you have your college, food, transport and bills covered. As long as you are sure all necessities are fully covered, then don’t think about it anymore.

A Breitling it’s a watch which you will keep for many years, and maybe pass it on to the next generation. Perhaps a little idealistic, but think about all the memories that a Breitling can bring up when you look at it in 30 years time, and remember all the things you have done and been through, and your Breitling was in all those moments.

A watch like this is not like your TV, your iPod or any other device. It’s a timepiece that can likely outlive you.

If you really feel like it’s the watch that you truly love and want it on your wrist, make your homework and if it seems that you won’t get in any trouble by doing it, then go ahead and purchase the watch.

I got my first breitling as a gift for graduating highschool 05'. I just bought my second last month (CHRONO SUPEROCEAN). I felt guilty for spending the money but everytime I put it on and everytime I get on this site Im more than happy I did. If your like me and love B-lings/ nice watches buy it. Ive liked these watches for over five years though if this is a new interest than I would wait and feel it out.
