Several members of this forum have posted excellent close up shots of their watch faces. I'm talking about the really close up shots. An example of what I'm talking about can be seen here in the close up picture:

How is this done? When I try it on my navitimer it always turns out fuzzy.

Seriously, there are several factors - Having a decent camera, or at least one that's able to operate semi-automatically or manually, a tripod, a halfway decent close-up lens (macro facility) and the patience to create a simple 'still life' setup, to name a few.

To get the fabulous depth of field, and thence the detail, take a look at what O2AFAC67 does with a shoe box and a Kodak Brownie - read this thread - he makes it sound so easy!

Basically it calls for a longish exposure because the lens will be stopped down to give maximum depth of field, and lots of light - diffused or otherwise depending on the effect you're trying to achieve. This is why it's hard on point-and-shoot cameras. This doesn't mean that it can't be done, but it's easier when you have at least some control over what the camera is doing.

Where's boxbrownie when you need him - he'd be able to explain this far better than I can...

With a point and shoot, you can just turn on the macro mode to get the great close up shots (it is usually a button that has what looks like a flower on it). With a point a shoot however you will have a very small Depth of Field so it will only focus on a very small area, while everything else is fuzzy.
