Post subject: | Discontinued watches and discount. |
I have been searching for an original dial non-chrono cockpit for months. I have finally found a dealer with one left. I thought most dealers would give a discount in most circumstances, and I thought seeing as this watch has been discontinued for some time now that they would be able to offer a better discount than normal, or at least some discount. However the manager seems pretty set on the full retail price, which he quoted at £2760 (calf leather/tang). Am I expecting too much expecting a good discount for a discontinued piece? regards |

Discontinued doesn't necessarily mean a bigger discount, especially as the model is still current, just refreshed dial. But no AD should expect people to pay full list. |

Uk ads can be very inflexible and lack knowledge I wouldnt buy without a discount also if they bought it from buk once it was on buk discontinued list they will likely have paid less for it than normal |

Don't pay full retail price. Keep looking until you find the right deal from the right AD. |

This is the first time i've even seen one of the old dial versions in black at all, and there has been nothing reliable on ebay for 6 months! ...just have to keep plugging away i guess. |

I wish that last sentence was true, but here in Japan you're more likely to find a leprichon in your pocket than a discount at the AD... |

Hi Dont listen to the AD i got mine with pilot Bracelet for £2800. Depending on how far your willing to travel an AD near me has one in and where willing to price match against the AD i did purchase it from. Try banks Lyons in lancaster. PS i dont work for or have any association with Banks Lyons. Good luck on your cock pit quest ![]() |

Yeah, but you are also more likely to find Breitling LEs, DBs, etc. I'd pay retail for those ![]() |

I'd second what Alex said about inflexibility from UK AD's. I recently looked in Fraser Hart and noticed they had an old Ti Seawolf. They didn't even know it had been discontinued ages ago until I told them. They even had the new SS version in ![]() The thing that annoys the most is the fact they had applied both 2009 price increases to it even though they probably bought it in back in '08 ![]() The watch you've looked at will most likely be there in a few months. Just keep offereing them what you're willing to pay. If its been in stock ages they probably have an extra 20% sitting on it anyway |

Gold watches can often be difficult to get discounts on when discontinued because Breitling requires dealers to maintain a stock of gold pieces dependent on size. If a small dealer has to keep one gold piece in stock they don't want to sell a discontinued model because they then have to buy a replacement from Breitling / the distributor at current pricing. I've never heard of that approach to SS / Ti pieces though. By contrast, Breitling for Bentley dealers usually have to deliver a certain level of turnover so the smaller Bentley dealers may be persuaded into larger discounts because they need the sales volume. |

If he got it sent for me to look at will he send it back if i dont buy it fairly soon? |

Thats a step in the right direction, and if it was a current model then not a horrendous deal for the UK. For an old model, I'm assuming it is, then really needs to be better. |

I have not bought a Breitling from an AD, all 3 have been private sales. However I have purchased a rolex and several cars from dealers. here in the US with the economy the way it is. I would think any dealer would take any reasonable cash offer. What would you do if you walked in with that amount of cash and said take it or leave it? Just curious. |
