Post subject:  First ever Breitling: SO Steelfish vs. Avenger Skyland
Obviously the question has already been asked in the subject-line, so here you go:

I am a student and the money is hard earned during 2009. Norwegian prices, which means 3300 dollars vs. 5600 dollars for the Skyland.

I think the Steelfish is a very nice watch, and it gives me the "wow"-factor as it is, but I fear it is because I currently do not own a watch and certainly not a Breitling. The Skyland is beautiful and I tried it on today, but the price is of course pretty hefty.

So what I am asking you guys is; convince me why I should go for the Avenger Skyland ;)

Ive owned both, and if I had to choose one, it would be the skyland. Its bigger, shiner, and a chronograph-ier. That said, both are very nice watches.

I really don't like commenting on these a vs. b discussions because ultimately it all comes down to taste, and that's very personal.

Having said that, it's a very big price difference, and if the money is a big deal for you (which I assume it is as a student) then you should only buy something that you are sure that you can afford. If the Skyland meets that criteria then great, no further justification needed, if the Skyland stretches affordability then you should either buy the Steelfish or wait.

Don't buy the Steelfish just because you can afford it and can't afford teh Skyland if the Skyland is what you really want.

Sorry if I sound like your parents :?

I'd go for the watch I truly wanted, rather than compromise. 3300 dollars is a lot of money to spend on something you're unsure that you'd truly like.
The steelfish seems to be the watch everyone wants initially, but when they see the rest of the collection they want something else :wink:

E: How about a compromise? The airwolf is undoubtedly a nice watch as well.

It seems you have decided to go with the avenger. My advice is save up for the watch you really want. I saved until I had enough for my SA and I am glad I did. I resisted the urge to get a seawolf(still want one).

And when you do have enough, be prepared that you might come out of the AD w a completely different model... :mrgreen:

That is too true!

I am ready to go to the AD tomorrow afternoon.

I have my eyes on the Avenger Skyland..... I guess wearing that watch will also feel more special compared to a Steelfish which is pretty reasonable, at least in foreign countries.

I also do like the Chronomat, although it is a little bit smaller in size.

The chrono has been around for a while.... do you guys find it smart or is it on its way out? I am still pretty uncertain about this, so the decision will be made tomorrow in the store...

Well according to Breitling, its the bestselling model.

I own a Steelfish, but found the Skyland more comfortable to wear after trying one on.
The case back on the Steelfish sticks out a long way, but the case sides are larger on the Skyland allowing a shallower case back if that makes sense.

Love the screw-locked pushers on the Chronomat 8) This model vastly decreases in price if you go with say a Calf leather strap rather than bracelet, so that could be an option, but hopefully not viewed a compromise.

Think you need to try on all 3 and go with the one that gives you the biggest grin :wink:

:yeahthat This is so true.
When I went to get my first B I was aiming for the Steelfish. Tried on the Super Avenger and left the store with it.
Never had any regrets.

Hi,

It is always difficult to choose between two beautiful watches and i was in the same position 2 day's ago.

I want de avenger seawolf with the yellow dial for a very long time but saw the SA in the store wen i went back and liked the presence of that big case 8) .
So it was seawolf vs SA...... and it has become de seawolf because of the yellow dial and the SA is to big for my wrist, atleast thats what i think and i like the clean dial of the seawolf without the chrono's.

So what i try to say is " your first impression is in most cases the best choice".

Hi.

I had a very similar dilemma. Decided I finally wanted a Breitling (wanted one for almost 10 years). So it started with a Superocean, went on to the Steelfish. Then, I saw the Skyland. The AD put it on hold for me and I went down there. I was ready to buy it, but just before that, I asked them if they could show me the Super Avenger, just to compare the size. And guess what, I ended up getting the SA. It just spoke to me, nothing was wrong with the other ones really, but the SA was the one.
What I'm trying to say is, don't be convinced by anyone to get anything. Go to your AD, take your time, ask to see some other watches in the same price range. Your decision might surprise you, but I guarantee, if you just follow your taste and heart, you'll go out of there a happy man, looking at your wrist all the time and still not knowing what time it is. :)

I compared the two before I bought one.......The SKYLAND....is what I purchased...black face w/steel bracelet and black OR. Definately the WOW factor between the two!!!!

They're both great watches -- I should know, I own one of each. :D I bought the Steelfish first then a couple years later, the Skyland. But this isn't helping you any... As some of the guys said, buy the one that really speaks to your heart. Don't buy the Fish just because it is less expensive.

I have one piece of other advice, though...If you visit your AD and still can't decide which one to buy, leave, and come back when you're finally sure. It can be very tempting with all those glittering timepieces just begging to go home with you. But you're not obliged to buy anything, not until you're ready. So take your time, make your final decision, then follow through. And good luck with whatever you decide. :)
