Hi There, So here goes my first real post.......As most people i think....i have been stalking the sight for a long time but with no Breitling in hand i did not have much to offer. But today i do have a Breitling Skyland Avenger thanks to my Great Wife who bought it more than a year ago for my 30th Birthday and kept it a secret from me until now. The watch itself is just Stunning and the detail is perfect in every way. But then i had to go and ding it 3 days in,not jackhammering, not skydiving just opening a bloody door. Its not like anybody would notice but to me it more like a crevas!!Right on the edge of the bezzel 2mm long(2km) in my eyes.... So my question is,as far as repairs go on the Blacksteel versions, has there been any advance in the process? Or are we still living in the age of replace rather than repair? Thanks for your comments |

Congratulations on the Skyland Avenger! Amazing that your wife held onto it for more than a year ![]() I commiserate with you on the ding, I can't think of anything worse. Perhaps over time you won't notice it as much ![]() |

Congrats, welcome, and I am sorry (all in one post!) The ding is character. My SA is a daily wear and has plenty of character marks. When you live in a watch it is going to get occasional bumps and dings, just like you do. Now, if we could just design a metal that would "heal". |

I’m one of those people who loves the blacksteel look, but couldn’t handle the scratching of the surface finish and exposure of the underlying metal. Personally, I think the technology needs improvement – I get the impression the blacksteel treatment is no more robust than the anodizing on the Aluminium bezel of late sixties big case Navitimers. I would have thought in 2010 some material scientist somewhere could think of a way to make steel black and stay black. Further, I would have thought in this day and age that there would be some sort of touch-up pen or something? |

you gotta really really bang it to expose the metal underneath. i have worn mine daily in a rough environment since the day i got it and its PERFECT. i have hit it a few times where i told myself " that one HAD to leave a mark!" and nothing. it is waaay tougher than i expected |

Welcome & congrats! I scratched my brand new EM that very night, and after the initial sinking feeling has passed, actually found myself feeling LIBERATED!! Now you can REALLY enjoy wearing the watch 24/7! Today is almost a week since I wore my brand new SA, and since it's still perfect, I feel myself somewhat "stressed" and forever cradling my watch hand around "danger" areas like crowds, buildings, cars, cinemas, restaurants... heck, after a shower even caught myself thinking "hm, is this towel too rough for my SA? Will it scratch the buckle?"... |

Thanks for your comments I did exactly the same thing with my Super Avenger Black Steel, I caught the 6 o'clock rider tab on the metal edge of a door finger plate, at the time it left two marks, one on each outer edge of the tab at the bottom. Strangely now they have disappeared! Stef |

Thank you for your comments, It nice to now that i am not the only peanut out there that can scratch up a watch in the first week...... Its true what you say by feeling liberated, once the initial shock has passed and you can feel your legs again, all that is left is a personilized peace of machinery. What i did notice afterwards was the damage to the door...Altot worse off that the Ling...I was impressed. On closer inspection i noticed i could pick off bits of metal and the actual damage to the watch was alot less than i thought to start off with. So in conclusion the steel is pretty strong, but a touch up pen would be great to cover up that slight steel shine. Now i am wearing it 24/7 with evening showers as a must. And Lovin it!!! |

Hi Guys, I was snoopen around the net and came across this little number,it explains the blacksteel treatment and even has a photo of a Blacksteel on a Blacksteel bracelet (PVD) more likely Here is is link http://www.mwrforum.net/forums/showthread.php?t=24847 I dont actually like the look of the Black bracelet, I would love to see what a Blacksteel would look like on a ZULU strap.... Does anybody have a picture of a Blacksteel on a ZULU strap? |
