im looking for some honest advice, should i sell my SOH46 for a Rolex 14060M Sub no Date?

i know im asking this in a breitling forum but id like some opinions as i know that you all have good taste in watches!

i do love the SOH especially the size, but the 14060M is a timeless classic!

should i do it?

P.S.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Be different and don't own a Rolex. Unless you have plenty of watches and this is just a hole in the collection to fill, why bother?

Both great watches, pick the one you like more, simple as that.

The sub will feel like a ladies watch after wearing the SOH46

:yeahthat Mark's basically said what I'd say word for word!

Personally though, if it was MY money, I would keep the SOH46 as the 14060M is not my favourite Rolie by some margin. With the Rolex you'll get the good 'ol "tin-foil" bracelet of yesteryear (not the new and rather excellent solid linked version) and no date. And it's also tiny compared to the SOH46. Bit too many trade-offs IMO for the crown on the dial, but at the end of the day only you can decide.

I can't say I love the 14060M either. It's too plain for my liking. My opinion is slightly biased though, as I'm not a fan of Rolex to begin with.

I'd wait until Basel 2010, and only decide after that. Rolex is supposed to roll out the new Submariner Date Ceramic then, and _maybe_ an updated 14060M as well. And there's a chance Breitling will release a couple of new pieces with the B01 movement, e.g. a new Blackbird or a new Navitimer. IMHO this time of the year is the worst to get a new watch from Rolex or Breitling.

I like the Rolex Sub design. I like much more the SOH design - the 46 mm is not my size though. I do not think everyone has to own a Rolex - I had 3 but fortunately don't have now and do not want to buy one - unless they'd produce the watch with the functions I need: chronograph, day-date, diver's lunette (like on my beautiful Breitling CSO). So - as the Daytona is not suspected to be made with these functions in the next 100 years or so - Breitling for me in the future as well. Waiting for the day-date Chronomat B01 - maybe in a 40 mm case.
So all in all: SOH before Sub.

I too quite like the look of the dateless sub and have thought I might like to get one , but then I put on my Cockpit ,the one with the black dial , and the sub looks second rate .

Agree, it will feel like a downgrade imo. Now if it's the Deep Sea Seadweller on the other hand...

I went looking at Rolex today and tried on a bunch of new models like the deep sea, milgauss, some of the new ceramic bezels...and after everything the lady pulled out a SS sub...holy crap that thing feels like, well, crap! They better update that one sooner than later. I find it hard to comprehend that people pay such good money for one of those things.

Not to mention the homage factor.

As for the thread, no way I'd part with a ling for a small Rolex. My Blackbird turned my Tag into a women's watch, and my SA kicked it right out the door. I see a lot of threads that bigger watches are just a trend and I couldn't disagree more. I think 50mm+ will always look a little wacky on an average size wrist, but anywhere in the 40s will be the acceptable norm. for good. With the exception of dress watches big just looks better!
