Hi everybody,

I am planning to buy a watch from Govberg and have it shipped to Canada. Can anybody tell me how much tax+duties I have to pay for a watch totalling to 2100 US$?

Thanks,

If it is declared at full value, and shipped by a courier like Fedex or UPS:
usd$2100 = cad$2205
$2205 + 13% tax = $2491
Brokerage $40-50.
Maybe a bit of duty.

Assuming it's Ontario - otherwise the 13% may vary.

Import duty right now is 4% if I remember correctly - and you have to pay GST on the brokerage fees as well

The item will be shipped by USPS postal service and NOT a courier service like UPS or Fedex.

Duties on watch are 6%, not 4. After that you add the taxes depending on your province.

That knocks the brokerage down to a flat $5. So thats good. The postal service seems a bit more inconsistent in the way they assess the charges, and sometimes you get lucky and it breezes right through with no charges. That never happens with the couriers.

So figure on the exchange rate, plus 13%, plus 6%, plus $5 worst case scenario.

We're both wrong - it's 5% - http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/trade-commer ... 91-eng.pdf

Lol sorry roff. Looks like the tarrif was updated recently... They change them once in a while. I can't believe they have a team of 50 people working on changing import duties all the time.

Ok. So 2150 US$ for an Superocean x-plus Steelfish + 18% tax and duties + 5$ would be 2587 US$ totally....? Is this what I am looking at or did I miscalculate...

Close enough. Like I said, it is not consistent, so it might be less, I doubt it will be more.
