I still feel the need for an Emergency. Been looking at a few used examples, but I really need to determine if you are supposed to be able to see any of the red band indicating that the transmitter has been activated.
Some of the case back photos of the ones for sale clearly show some visble red band behind the screw cap. I didn't think this was the case if its not been tampered with :?

So if anyone can take a photo of their case back, obviously with an untampered antenna screw cap would be greatfully received :)

Not great pic of EM, but all I have at mo....

Image

The little security ring (plastic tab you mentioned) on my EM worked loose, and BUK replaced it immediately free of charge. It doesn't mean anything has been tampered with. The little plastic rings are quite fragile. This can happen, I know of at least 2 other E/EM owners this has happened to.

If the Transmitter had been tampered with the E would display the fact on the LCD I believe, some E owner will confirm this. The EM spins it's 100th Second Totaliser to let you know the Transmitter has been deployed.

Hope this helps.

They are actually a bit different depending on the vintage.

Thats very much appreciated chaps. Some very clear pictures there showing no red at all. Almost looks as though that grey ring would pop off, exposing red underneath

I'll see if I can find the one I looked. Have a feeling it was on ebay. The guy replied saying it had never been tampered with

This isn't the original listing I mentioned. No doubt someone has bought the other one not realising.

However this photo is very similar to the other Emergency with tampered antenna:

Its now very clear from the photos you guys supplied that the grey plastic ring has snapped off

I wouldn't touch one thats showing red now I know 100% that its not right.

I might contact Andrew Michaels in the new year. We know anything they sell is 100% checked OK :) Defo the safest bet!

I vaguely remember a thread on this about a year back. I think that there have been some cases where the gray ring broke away and was replaced during servicing.

That said, always good advice to avoid anything that's not quite as it should be.
