I'm curious to know if anyone wears their watch while doing athletic activities, specifically while skiing. I know my B01 has some built in shock protection, but my gut feeling is to leave it at home when I head up to the mountains for a day of skiing. How sensitive is a mechanical movement to shock? What are your thoughts? -Craig |

i went skiing with my tag on a couple of weeks ago, its a quartz so i wasent to worried about it. when i bought my skyland i took it cycling and will NEVER do it again, i couldn't stop worrying about it! |

Well this is a variation on the 'should I golf with my Breitling' topic  I don't ski but I would think that the shock would be more from falling than skiing, and then I would be worried about other damage - scratches, dings, broken spring bars, etc. The shock is really a high g issue which is why golf is not recommended, but I imagine that skiing is less likely to inflict high g stress. |

There was a thread on a shooting forum I belong to regarding shooting your guns with mechanical wristwatches on, the question referring to the shock from the recoil of the guns damaging the movement. The general consensus was that it would not. I'm new to mechanical watches, and I don't golf (or ski), but I never even would've thought that it would be a bad idea to golf with it on. Guess I'll have to do some googling and educate myself! |

As Roff stated, personally I'd be more worried about breaking a spring bar or dinging the watch during a fall whilst skiing than harming the movement. There's obviously very little shock while skiing and even if you fell you'd have to fall directly on the watch to harm it; most likely it will be under your jacket sleeve anyway which may cushion it somewhat. If it was my only watch I'd wear it but I do have others more suited to sports

Just got my Avenger Seawolf (a battle tank of a watch) out of the shop for knocking it out of whack golfing. Going skiing next week (don't tell anyone but I'll most likely have my good ol' "backyard - grass cutting" Timex Expedition on when I do). Nevertheless, the Seawolf will be proudly displayed upon my wrist at the lodge during the evening though. |

People, it's times like these - and questions like this - where we need to ask ourselves WWJD - Would would James do? The answer is quite clear: Although in these scenes he is not wearing a Breitling, he is wearing a high end mechanical. Note, he is not only skiing but also shooting.    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH...

What Omega21 said. Mind you, James wouldn't crash like I do, so I wore a G-Shock last time I went skiing. Distinct lack of cocktails, smoking jackets and girls for me, sadly. |

I use to wear mine everywhere doing everything. However I've bought a suunto for these activities now. Its more of a rec watch. |

Thanks to all who replied. I think I may leave the B01 at home. I think I'm going to end up being too worried about it and not be able to enjoy my day skiing. It sounds like the movement would probably fair relatively well, but I don't want to chance it. -Craig |

Are you nuts??? Sky with a swatch or something... My pal lost his glorious watch last sky season during a decent... Either its still in the snow or some lucky person got a surprise when catching his breath on the pista... pete |
