Post subject:  Deployant clasp or buckle?

Hey guys i'm planning on buying the Breitling Navitimer World watch with a leather strap but am still unsure whether to get the buckle or clasp....any pros and cons for each? Is the clasp easy to adjust to different sizes? Thanks in advance!

Deployant is infinitely adjustable, tang obviously isn't - you have to fit a hole. Tang puts more wear on the strap and therefore shortens the life. I personally find the deployant extremely comfortable, and I like the fact that it's easier to put on (no fear of dropping the watch).

On the flip side, deployant is a lot more expensive!

:yeahthat The only other thing I'd add is that I personally think the deployant looks more classy too.

thanks for the input! but for the deployant strap, don't you have to cut the strap? what if you gain weight and need the strap longer again? Also can you adjust it to your size by yourself or do you have to get it done professionaly?

You've probably read my reply in the thread that then got locked.

If you have a rubber strap with a deployant it's true that you have to cut it. If you do that wisely (ie also use the micro adjustment in the clasp) you'll still have some play if you would expand or decrease your wrist size. If not, you only need to buy a new rubber strap, something like $20 (give or take a few).

However, the leather deployant in this case, you don't cut. Instead, the part that is excess length is folded into the deployant and can at any time just be extended. It takes about ten seconds to do it (as you have to take the watch off your wrist first) and it's very easy to do by yourself.

With a rubber & deployant, you have to cut the rubber. With leather, the leather strap is tapered to be thinner near the deployant so there is no cutting required, and you can adjust it.

Leather with deployant is the way to go, especially on a Navi.

Here is a generic deployant if you don't want to drop a ton of coin: http://www.strappedfortime.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=40

Thanks sooooo much for this info!!!!

My fiance bought me an Rose Gold Navitimer Montbrillant Olympus as my wedding gift and although I like the Tang strap it came with, I would prefer a Deployant clasp.... just can't pay the $3,000 the AD is asking. (Hell, we are still paying for the freaking wedding!!!)

One quick question though, will this clasp fit over the Tang straps or do I need to buy new straps also? I couldn't tell from the pictures what type of straps it was.

Thanks for all the info! You guys (and ladies) rock!!

Deployant straps are different from tang straps (no holes). I believe that the tang strap will fit in the deployant though.

And what was the AD selling for $3,000 - deployants aren't cheap, but they aren't 3 grand!!!

That was the price he quoted for the Rose Gold deployant clasp. Personally, I'm not partial to the clasp being Rose Gold..... I own the watch, I don't give a damn if others think it's "Tacky" to have a LE watch mixed with a non gold clasp... I'm happy with the WATCH!!!

Got it!

Yeah, they are expensive, and no justification even for current gold prices.

As Roff says, you can use a tang strap with a deployant. I tried that a while ago and only the last hole was somewhat visible - the rest were covered by the deployant.
