why do you think breitling chose to use a cambered crystal on the blackbird and not flat crystal like most of the models?
like when you look at the aeromarine line from the side you can almost feel there is no glass but when you look at the blackbird from the side the glass is not flat...
any reason for that??

There are more models with chambered sapphire than flat.

:yeahthat

And it's for water resistance generally, though on Navitimers it's clearly not needed for that - I suspect that's a fit issue with the bezel style.

Corundum (artificial sapphire), is the second hardest commonly found substance after diamond.

As far as Navi's go I'd suspect it also has a bit to do with history too.

As a general rule I find flat crystals produce far less glare than domed crystals, although the AR coating on Breitlings is so good that it completely negates the issue. What I would say though is if you go for a watch with no external AR, then flat crystals are considerably better in terms of glare reduction in my experience. (Well, it doesn't actually reduce the glare, it just means that it only happens at one angle as opposed to mutliple angles with domed crystals.
