I bought a recently bought a Navi with the B23 movement and decided I needed to buy a watch winder. I noticed that Costco.com had a great deal on this winder.

I just got the winder today and I looked up my movement on orbita's site and it called for 800 revolutions per day clockwise. The only problem I have with my winder is it makes 4,320 revolutions per day. It's not a continuous winder, and I know my movement has a over winding protection, but I'm afraid I can do damage to my watch since it will be winding over 5x than it should. Should I not use this winder?

I calculate that to be three revolutions per minute over a 24 hour period. That is seriously spinning a watch and I doubt that it is taking rest breaks between to allow the main spring to unwind. Are you sure of those numbers?. If they are indeed accurate then I wouldn't use that winder. You need the mainspring to have a period to unwind. As far as overwinding it's not a problem per se since an auto can't be overwound but I don't think I would subject my watch to unnecessary winding if it could be avoided.

Ill have to agree with br549...are you sure youve got the right number? That sounds like way too much.

That can't possibly be right - no watch in the world needs anything close to that.

The overwinding won't damage the watch, the lack of rest periods would be problematic though. And if it is spinning that fast AND taking rest periods, then it's spinning way, way too fast. You might even get oil moved from the jewels at that high a sustained speed.

Instead of 4320 revolutions I wonder if it might instead be 4 periods of 320 revolutions?

That would make more sense.

I just did a small test and it makes 6.5 revolutions per minute. The winder spins for 20 minutes and rests for the other 40. That's over 3,000 revolutins per day..looks like I'm going to take this back to costco. Thanks guys!

That's obviously less than the 4,320 claimed (assuming that it is 20 on / 40 off), but I have no idea why a winder would be built to that many rotations, it's way too high for any watch that I can think of. I think taking it back is the right choice - even though the rest periods are there the winder is going to be working much harder than iit needs too which will inevitably shorten its life.
