As long as the watch is genuine, you don't need any paperwork at all to get BUK to service a watch. Obviously without an in-date warranty you will have to pay for any repairs of course, but that's it.

If you want to have warranty repairs done, you will need the watch to have an in-date warranty card, fully completed by the originating AD.

ah cool. dont know why i got it into my head you needed the cert etc or they wouldn't touch it.

so its just a case of send it off for a service and they will do it or return it if its fake?

Yeah I'm pretty sure that they won't return a fake. The only time that you face problems with an original is if the serial number has been removed.

Somehow, that seems illegal. Yes, the fake itself may be illegal, but it isn't their property, so why do they have the right to keep it?

I suspect their perspective is why would they return an illegal product to you when it is specifically damaging their copyright.

I don't know for sure that they wouldn't return it, it just seems unlikely to me.

US law says you must come to them with "clean hands." i.e. dont expect the system to help you out when your [insert illegal activity here] goes wrong.

But owning a fake watch isn't a crime in the US. It's a civil matter.

I believe its a fine line in that owning a counterfeit piece of merchandise can be construed as promoting copyright infringement, which could in turn make it a crime. Not that it would ever be enforced though... Still, no court, including a civil court would give you the time of day. Besides, its not some random stranger robbing your fake B, its the actual copyright holder.

...but maybe they do send it back...ive got no idea.

With regards to fakes, what I have heard from some manufacturers is that they tend to contact the person who sent them the fake and give them the following option - They say that they will either keep it and destroy it "on behalf of the owner", or send it back to the owner and then may sue the owner for copyright infringement. From what I've heard, people are suddenly very keen to have the manufacturer destroy it for them!

Hi All!

I once had a fake Rolex (however, I was not aware that it was a fake & furthermore at that time I knew nothing about watches) and walked into Rolex off 5th Ave here in NYC. I wanted the watch service. I gave the watch to the lady and she took it as I explained what was wrong with it. The Rolex lady came back with the watch and explained that it was a fake. I was terribly embarrassed by the whole thing but the lady gave me back the fake Rolex. It's been more than a decade since and I have yet return to Rolex!

True Story!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best Regards,

Enezdez

Hi All.....

I heard recently from a pal, who bought a fake thinking it was authentic, claiming that he sent off the watch to BUK for servicing and received the watch back within a few days with a polite letter explaining why they could not carry out the work.................................

Along with the letter he received the watch that he sent to the for service................................in a plastic bag!!!!

However the watch was unrecognisable as it was in hundreds of pieces. :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Not his fault the watch was fake obviously and he did return it to where he bought it.

I recently bought a rado not knowing it was fake it had the service card and box and I even collected it in person and checked it over all seamed OK to me, However its bracelet was broken so I sent it in to rado for service, They sent it straight back and explained it was a fake with a Japanese movement, They wanted to know where i got it from and stuff like that but they sent it back in one.
