Post subject:  SuperOcean surprise - maybe back to Breitling!

Hi Folks,
Well, after spending the past year selling or trading every Breitling I had, and going to all Omega watches, I was at my AD again today. I am thinking of selling my Omega Aqua Terra 8500, and am looking for a replacement. After all, I can't just sell a watch and keep the money! It has to go toward a new watch, of course.
Anyway, I noticed a brand new Super Ocean with a blue dial. What attracted me was the blue dial. When the AD took it out of the display case, we both commented that it is probably the nicest blue dial we had ever seen. I looked at it in the light. I don't know what treatment the dial is, almost looks brushed somehow, but it gives off the most beautiful bluish glow I have seen. The photos I have seen all make it look way lighter, and not nearly as rich. Depending on the light, it can look very dark indeed.
I am going back to have another look at it again tomorrow. I did try it on, and it felt just great. 42mm is the absolute largest I would want to go, it actually looked smaller than my 41.5mm Aqua Terra.
Cheers,
Carl

I think we all knew it was just a matter of time :lingsrock:

You'll never regret a SuperOcean, and you need a breitling in your collection, let it be an absolute classic with the color of the ocean! 8)

I had another look at it today. My first Breitling, back in the early 90's, was a Colt Quartz. I later traded it at my AD downtown up to a SuperOcean, in 1997 ( I paid $575. for the Colt in the early 90's, and my AD gave me $800. toward a new SuperOcean ). He was awesome, and had it not been for that, I would never have been able to afford the SuperOcean. I have never forgotten that, and have dealt with almost no other AD since. I just wish now that I still had the 1997 SuperOcean!
The blue dial on the new one is gorgeous, again the best blue I have ever seen on any watch. It is still high on my list.
So, the Breitling is still on my mind, just looking at a few other possibilities at the moment. Possibly something smaller.
Excellent photos, SprickVT. You really captured more the true color of that dial!
Cheers,
Carl

Carl,

Only you can know what's right for you. All I would say is just sleep on it a little - you don't want to buy impetuously and then regret it.

Also worth bearing in mind that Basel is only a few months away so who knows what Omega, Breitling, Perrelet et al will be coming up with.

Thanks for the advice, Roff. As a matter of fact, I am looking at absolutely everything before I make a decision. Buying impulsively can be fun, but it can also be expensive. Had a wonderful time at a great Rolex AD yesterday, and today I'm going to another to take a look at some Longines and Zenith lines that they carry.
Cheers,
Carl
