Post subject: | Newb Question |
Hello. Registered yesterday and did the obligatory introduction. I mentioned I would be looking for an automatic someday, and here we are 24 hours later and I'm just about ready! Two questions...as I mentioned in my intro I now have two Colt Quartz's. One is the old style, a 2000 model. Do most/all AD's do trade-ins, or is it rare? I'll probably never wear the old Colt again, as it is pretty small and I have no need for two quartz watches. Also, any idea what I could expect to see in trade for the old Colt, in addition to the 20% discount I would expect to see on a new automatic? Thanks |

Personally, I would think that if your "trade in" Colt is pretty old and well used (meaning banged up a bit) you might not get much for a trade in. For the AD, its a business decision and if after servicing and polishing the watch they still need a little profit when they resell it. Realistically I would be surprised to hear of 50% of retail. Now as far as a new auto, 20% is pretty common in the USA but not in the UK and other countries. Where are you located? We have some connections with AD's (here, through different members) that could possibly get you a better deal. I would warn against buying from a picture. Go to an AD and try the all on until one "speaks to you". Then decide if you are going to establish a relationship with your local dealer (20%) or buy it through the forum connections. I would strongly try to discourage an internet purchase, unless they can guarentee serial numbers intact and they are on the "trusted" seller list, here on the forum. Hope this help a little. |

Sorry, should have mentioned location. I'm in NE Ohio, and purchsed my Colt last weekend from an AD here. I plan on going back to him, as my experience last weekend was good. He offered 20% off, and changed battery, gaskets, leak tested, etc. my old Colt while I waited. |

You will get a lot more with a private sale than with a trade in. That said, the AD trade in route is easy as you don't have to go through the sales process. To get a comparative price you may want to drop a PM to jnelson3097 for the contact details of George at Govberg. I recognise that you are happy with your AD, but 20% isn't that great! |

def contact George! When it is time to replace my B4B hopefully early 2010 I am actually going to fly to Phila and meet George purchase the watch in person then have him ship it to me to save tax. I will spend less on a plane ticket then I would on tax plus it will be a fun day trip. Little shopping, good lunch (possibly with George) |
