Hi all!
My recent steelfish purchase wasn't as simple and enjoyable as I expected!

I've owned Breitlings for around 7 years although only 2, a Colt chrono and a 2006 Navitimer. I decided I needed a change on the colt and went looking for a steelfish. My local ad ( major high street chain) had a silver dial pro II in stock, I tried it on and loved it! So out came the debit card, job done! The very friendly sales woman takes it away for adjustment I'm waiting around excited as hell! Then she comes out with my watch and the box! I look down and I see an older style double yellow outer box which has a big bash in the corner and is really dirty like it's been dragged across the floor. I think my face gave away my shock I asked for it to be changed but the lady said boxes were watch specific and they can't!!! She's already done all the paperwork so I head off home. Next day I decide to return it because I figured that watch must be from 2007 or before plus when I got home I noticed some scratching next to the helium valve. They really didn't want to refund but I managed to get one in the end! Never shopping with that chain again!! So I look around for about a month and come across a black dial with a diver pro which another high street chain ad had just had delivered from breitling. I really love this watch and glad I went for the diver pro as it's a little more practical for a daily wear. Anyway I get this one home and look at the warranty card, where the serial no should be the is the watches ref code and where the ref code should be is some code off the White outerbox! On top of that there's no stamp and no signature. But they managed to get the date right!! So now I have to do a 100 mile round trip to get this fixed.

Am I the only buyer to get these kind of problems or do these high street chains need a kick up the ass? With the economy the way it is you'd think they would get it right!

Really pleased with the fish it's a great watch and definately a keeper!! :lingsrock:

I havent bought many watches in the big high street shops as they tend to be more expensive. They have to pay the rent somehow..... Besides I think the employees tend to be a lot less knowledgeable, its just a job for them. They probobly get some crash course in watches and jewlery etc..... but I dont think you get any experts...... This is at least they way I feel about it.

But regarding filling in the paperwork, I think they definetly should be able to at least fill it in right.

Well I actualy got a 10% discount on the black dial which kind of helps! I do have a family owned ad here in Cheltenham but I really feel uneasy being in there, not sure why lol! And when I had a little trouble with my Navi they really weren't helpfull because I didn't buy from them. For my next purchase I think I'll consult the forum and use them regularly! I guess it's good to get a relationship with a good ad and hopefully they will look after you for your repeat business!

I always find it amazing that retailers haven't figured out that they need to be nice to customers who come in for help on items purchased elsewhere. As in your example, it's how you are treated in that circumstance that dictates who you will buy from the next time around. They could have easily garnered themselves a repeat customer but instead... well we see what happens.
On a side note - related to high end sellers:
You know what, I'll post this as it's own topic so as not to re-direct your thread. I'll post this under something like Omega flagship store.

Oh, you mean Beards. Yeah, they have elevated snobbery to an artform! Practically require a dresscode to get in LOL!

Oh yes, I know exactly what you mean about high street chain AD's. I have already discussed further down this thread:

viewtopic.php?f=12&t=13671

Another incident that occured with the same chain, Ernest Jones was when I tried to buy a pro diver rubber strap for my Wings as the leather strap had perished. Back then I was completely unknowledgeable about Breitlings (compared to fairly unknowledgeable now :D). They decided that as the watch was so old and a discontinued range, then the strap would have to be specially ordered from Switzerland on back order and could take up to a month or two due to it not being made anymore!!!

They took my telephone number (as is was a Sunday and they couldn't ring anyone.) and promised me an update. two weeks later - nothing. I rung up and they could not find any record even though it had been placed in their shop diary. When I told them this, they said it had been crossed out! Then they rung to say it had been ordered. ONE MONTH later - nothing. Rung up - again - no flippin' record of my order!!!

Got fed up, went to another AD and they fitted one there and then!!!

So now I avoid Ernest Jones when it comes to BUYING watches, but I will gladly use their time and resources to try on watches and pick up chronologs. It is my way of getting payback!!
