I don't get it, the SA and Chrono Avenger seem to be very similar watches in that they have the same features, movement, water rating etc etc except that the SA is rather larger and cheaper by about a 1000USD. Anybody else find this puzzling?

I still like the Evo alot better, it's styling is nicer and that beutifull rounded side just puts a smile to my face, but why is it more expensive? Maybe that's why the SA is being discountinued, to be renamed and the price jacked up. From what I see it seems that metal behemoth is selling well so Breitling might have realised they under valued it.

Altair...

The two watches are similiar, but the SA is about $500 U.S more than the CA. I have not heard that the SA is being discountinued, I know the CA is, and not in the 08 Chronolog.

The SA is big, and since I have been wearing mine for the past week, gets noticed all the time...nothing but compliments. My CA gets noticed too,but not like the other.
By the way, the EVO is sweet too, and next on my list...

Merry Christmas to all!

Remember, the SA is in SS and the CA is in Titanium, which making it a lot more expensive to produce. However, Ti = Non corrosive, super light weight, scratch resistance.

Sorry guys!! I meant to say the SA and Chronomat Evolution in my first post!!! Those are the two similar watches I meant, and the Evo is 1000 USD more.....discuss.

Evo costs more because of a bracelet, nicer dial, screwdown pushers, slightly convexed sapphire crystal and finer overall finish, IMHO.

I have not handled the SA personaly so that might be it bnewbie. If the rumors regarding the discountinuation of the SA turn out to betrue they might come out with a better finished SA alternative, a Breitling non-Bentley Bentley if you will.

I don't think it'll be discontinued because it's one of the best selling models.
Maybe a slight makeover but nothing radical, cos' it's in the aeromarine series and supposed to be cheaper than the Evo which is in the windrider series.

Aside from the size, the SA is less spectacular than the EVO. If the EVO came in a 48mm version, it would blow the SA out of the water. The Dial on the SA is bland, the details on the pushers are not as impressive, the bezel isn't as nice with all the screwdown riders... and the shape of the case is a bit less nice. Still a nice watch, but the EVO is 'finer' looking.

I kind ofagree with Admin on this one, but I think it really depends on what you find spectacular in a watch. Yes the SA's dial is more plain (personally I'd call it that, rather than "bland"), but IMHO I think that if you want a manly, functional looking watch, then the SA IS a truly spectacular piece. I think the pushpieces and the bezel suit the SA perfectly, and I don't find them any better or worse than those on any of the Evo's I've handled. I love the Evo too, and definitely want to get one myself, but I think it can be slightly more dressy in comparison to the SA, so in terms of styling I think they aren't really a like-for-like.

I love them both, for different reasons, but there can be no denying that the SA is excellent value for money.

I agree with Admin,

I'm hoping that they come out with a larger EVO. I really like the gold and steel model with the roman numerals but when I put one on it's just too small after wearing a Bentley for 8 months and now the SA. I'd be happy if they made a gold and steel 2 tone SA.

If you hold them side by side you can easily see why the evo is more expensive. The pilot bracelet alone is list $1100 vs. $420 for the professional (SA) bracelet. There is a lot more detail in the dial and subdials of the evo, which, if you like it or not, can't be denied. The greater detail means more man hours to produce. Lastly, and often overlooked, is the case itself. The evo has the windrider case which is sleaker and more rounded. This means more time is spent stamping, forming and polishing it to it's final shape. The SA has the more boxy case that defines the Aeromarine series, and less costly to produce. Look at the pricing of the Windriders vs. the Aeromarines as a whole, Windriders are more expensive across the board (for the most part).

The only thing in common is the movement, everything else is quite different. I have a Chrono SuperOcean and an Evo, they look very similar, but are also quite different when you get down to the details.

Titanium is surely non corrosive and super light, but not scratch resistant. Ti is softer and more flexible than SS, but then also easier to get scratches to.

I have seen the Super Avenger priced below the Chrono Avenger too. Both in my opinion are great looking pieces. I think the size of the Super Avenger just makes a statement. I prefer Chronograph dials, but I love the look of the Super Avenger. If the Chrono Avenger was the same size, I would buy one tomorrow, and beg the wife for forgiveness.

I have an Avenger Seawolf and I can assure everyone here that Titanium is not scratch resistance. Mine has a big gash on the bezel, I don't mind it though, it gives it some character. I love the watch, wish the chrono came in yellow.
