I used to have my Aerospace service locally by an authorized center that is no longer in Bretling's website. Anyway, it stopped a few weeks ago and sent it in to Breitling in CT after talking to them. They said a battery service is around $90. So today, I get an estimate in the mail from Brietling. With a price of $536. I was shocked. So, I called them to have them explain it. The lady I spoke to said that the tech who looked at my Aerospace said that the movement need to be replaced and upgraded to the Super Quartz. I specifically asked if it was the battery. She said no. That the tech said the lube in my movement was dried up and damaged it. So, what I'm wondering is this possible? I'm not a watch expert, but I associated lubrication with mechanical movements like in my Navitimer, not a Quartz watch?? I have to say the red flag went up when my "authorized" repair place closed and it seemed like BUSA "centralized" repair/service? (them in CT??) Please educate me, funds are low, massive pay cuts, and divorce, but that's another story for another day. Cheers, Buscap |

High end quartz movements have jewels just like mechanical movements. They don't have as many, but they do require periodic lubrication. I'm a little surprised that they reported damage because the oil dried up. The quartz movement is driven by a stepper motor instead of a mainspring and the amount of torque on the time train is much lower. However, under high magnification one might see some worn pivots. Replacing the entire movement is certainly the solution. You get a watch back with a new movement that should last for several more years. |

Every quartz watch I have sent to Breitling over the years has had the movement replaced or they have said it was needed. The only one that wasn't was because they no longer had the parts. You can ask them to just replace the battery and send it back if that's all you want done. |
