Well?

I was surprised to find this waiting for me at home yesterday evening...

Image

Hmmm - says it comes from Grenchen...that's in Switzerland isn't it? Now who do I know in Switzerland? Better open it up...

Image

Ok, so it's a roll of glossy paper and a card...

Image

Ahh - ok, now I get it - it's a Christmas card from Breitling!! (Actually a 2008 Calendar - 12 gorgeous airplane photos)

Image

Complete with Santa, his 'plane and snow

Can't think why they bothered to send it to me - but thanks anyway, if you're lsitening Breitling - Merry Christmas

That’s very cool - no doubt Ling Man is waiting by the letterbox…

My only experience with the promotional side of Breitling here in Sydney was a somewhat comical incident a couple of months ago.

On a sunny afternoon I strolled into a nice watch store after a surprisingly painless wisdom tooth extraction. I was drawn by two lovely sights: an all gold large case special edition Navitimer (Limited Edition of 250 pieces), and the Australian Breitling Marketing Manager – she was inspecting and polishing the watches prior to a refurbishment of the shop. I felt the need to inspect matters further myself…

So caught up in my excitement was I - and given the uneventful extraction - that I’d forgotten about the local anaesthetic. I hadn’t spoken to anybody since the Dentist. 3/4 of my tongue was numb, and the remainder was decidedly uncooperative in facilitating the art of conversation. But I didn't know it!

I launched into a spiel of gibberish…“I grblenerablly prefler ab braclelet, brlut the glold clase looks awesbomele alnd thle leathler strlap ssluits ith…” I sputtered to my dismay.

I departed somewhat sheepishly a couple of minutes latter – ha ha!

Nice piece…

Strange - I don't seem to need any kind of anaesthetic at all to be able to speak like that !

Ha ha – yes, I too can speak gibberish without the dentist’s assistance!

It was an amazing watch I saw that day – diameter of 43-47mm, subdials in the Navitimer Fighter/GT configuration (or whatever the proper term is for the subdial layout which isn’t tricompax – ie 12-6-9 placement). I’d be interested if anybody knows which model it is as I haven’t seen one on the net. The list price was around AUD$24K – if my addled mind can correctly recall…

I actually did pretty good this year on the Ling gifts. I got 2 hats, a golf shirt and a backpack. But I would like to get the chocolates. Naviman got chocolates for about 3 years after he bought his first Ling.

Ling Man: Good to hear Santa didn’t forget you in ’07. Still, I think Sportback received a special gift.

The other day I saw a gold Motors T with bracelet. I didn’t dare ask the price, but with contrasting gold subdials, it may warrant a new category: Super Ling! It was extreme.

I think a great watch should be like a 1980 Gibson Les Paul Silver Burst Custom … PRS make a nice guitar, but dude, you can’t beat the original!

I like the old school Chronomatics - and that means I like the GT!

Carlos,

I have 2 PRS guitars a 93 CE-24 and a 95 Custom 24 both pre-machine hand made with the short heel. I also use 2 Strats. I sold my latest Les Paul last year because I use the BAR a lot. Here is a sample of me playing the PRS to a backing track of Santana's "Smooth"

Very cool.

Makes me wish I would have paid another $1100 an bought my Navi-World from an AD.

Not.

Nice gift though. It's the thought that counts.

Brian - I wouldn't worry. I DID pay the extra for my World from my AD and what have I got for Xmas? Well, lets just say the phrase starts with the word "sod" and ends with the word "all"!!

Don't worry - I'm not getting preferential treatment from Breitling - I think it's all down to the fact that earlier this year I had an exchange of e-mails with their client representative regarding a cracked strap - they've obviously put my name in their database and it popped up with all the other (and doubtless more deserving!) people on their client listing....

Last day at work (yippee), burn a few DVDs for some of my colleagues and them I'm off - who know's what the New Year has in store for us - perhaps a new 'World' some time in January - this said, after all the negative reports here (regarding the reliability) I'm not sure that this is altogether a good thing or indeed something to look forward too
