Post subject:  Help me sell my watch, please

I'm not trying to play games with the forum here by posting a "for sale" in the general forum. Rather, I'd like some feedback on why I'm not getting any action on my watch. I had it on the 'bay and had 14 watchers but no bidders. No emails or PMs here from my ad in the "for sale" forum.

So, any suggestions? Is my asking price too high? Do I need better pictures? Is something missing? Or is it just because it's a small (38mm) watch and everyone wants the big suckers? I'm OK with it taking a while to sell - I'm not in a hurry, but I also hate to waste my time if I'm doing something wrong.

Thanks!

Michael

It looks great, but I think you're rigth when you say that everyone wants a bigger watch. If I had to guess, that's why it hasn't sold. The only other thing I can think of is there is a lot of detail on the dial, maybe some will think it's hard to read the time.

Well I've not seen you eBay ad, but looking at your advert on here, I can't see a problem with it at all.

Apart from it being an economically tough time at the moment, which hugely affects used watch prices, it may literally be that the Monty is quite small by most current Breitling buyer's tastes. If you look at the "WTB" ads, then most always seem to be an SA, or a Navi World, or perhaps a Skyland. I can't recall seeing a WTB for a Monty unfortunately.

I had a hell of a time trying to sell my Bentley Le Mans even though loads of people appeared to be interested, so it may well just be one of those things.

If you don't mind waiting then I'm sure you'll sell it eventually as it looks like a great condition watch, but you may just have to wait for the right buyer to come along.

Seems a good deal to me :?: Maybe a full on dial picture would help?

Michael

I second that - I tried to sell my Monty for ages.

I have someone interested at the moment but with the current financial climate they may be holding off for now.

The size was the only thing I could say was the common thing which put people off. Most do not appreciate how exquisite the Montbrillant is - nor do they understand the heritage behind this piece.

I have been away from home for over 4 months and left the Monty at home as I thought it was sold - didn't want to add any wear after the potential buyer had viewed it. I have really missed it and if it doesn't sell I won't be too bothered.

Good luck with your sale - you will hopefully find a buyer who actually understands the watch.

Believe it's size is a problem in today's watch trend.

Thanks all for the comments! Anyone else, please feel free to chime in.

I guess I'll just be patient and stop lowering the price!

Michael

While recently shopping for a Navi I ran into a few monties which I avoided because of the size.

I dont think its priced badly, but you could do with some nice outdoor naturally lit pictures.

Ultimately, I think its the size of the watch which may be holding people back. Pop up a wrist shot.

That's a great idea! With my child-like wrists, it will look HUGE! And I'll take it outside and snap some shots there as well - thanks!

Michael,

First off, let me say that I think that an ad should look exactly like yours, so there's no problem with that.

I don't think that the size is the "problem" per se. I would rather say that the size in that price range. I had no problem selling my two of my earlier watches (both 38mm Colts) on a much smaller market, for a good price.

I think that most Breitling people would settle for a 38mm size if they're after an "entry-level watch" (I don't like this expression, btw), but would want something bigger if they are willing to spend more money.
The emphasis is on "most people", that does not mean "everyone", though!

That's why, if I were you, I wouldn't lower the price any more. (Sorry, lurking wannabe-buyers  ).
If you're not in a hurry selling it, I think you should wait until someone comes along who can appreciate it.
There are people who actually think that 38-40mm is the perfect size for a watch...

Just my 2 cents, of course.

OK, taking everyone's advice (I hope) I took several hundred pictures, and these appear to be the best.

I'll update my ad and eBay auction if you guys think these help. Thanks! :D

Hopefully a nice sharp photo in outdoor natural lighting:

It's a really nice watch and a great price. Again, the size issue is a factor at i think 38mm? Also, it is on a leather strap with a tang buckle. I think more people would desire the smaller watch on a braclet. I'm sure someone will bite eventually. Have you considered selling it to a jewlers?
