I'd recommend firstly dropping into an AD to see if a regulation will take care of it.
If it does require an overhaul, the warranty may come into play (if it's within warranty period of course
)

My 97 Blackbird (which i have just bought) has lost around 9 seconds in 5 hours which is obviously not acceptable, I got it at a good price and am more than happy with the watch however my question is that if i send it to BUK will they sort out the accuracy of the watch as part of the overhaul? |

Hi, yes i have looked at the videos, and have now emailed BUK for a price to get this watch 100%. Hopefully i will be able to get it all done as soon as possible. Though i will miss wearing it now i have actually got it here. |

The watch is about 12 years old so i'm guessing it is out of warranty, i have no record of it being serviced, which probably accounts for it losing just under a second an hour. Would an AD be able to adjust it or would they have to send it to a service centre? I dont have a service centre locally and would sruggle to get to an AD for a few weeks as i have some other commitments just now. |

Find a good local watchmaker and he should be able to try and adjust it for you. It shouldnt cost very much, and if it works you can save yourself a good amount of money. |

Thanks. I think I'll speak to BUK on Monday and get a quote. As the watch is new to me I think I may have it serviced or overhauled just to be on the safe side. It has definitlely been polished before but have no idea if it's ever been serviced. And as it's losing time I guess maybe not, or at least not recently. |

Not sure that a watchmaker is going to be able to address a loss of 9 seconds in 5 hours though regulation. That's > 40 seconds a day and that's generally going to need pulling the balance and making adjustments to the screws / adding or removing weight, etc. |

It lost 42 seconds in 24 hours to be precise. So i'm guessing at leat a mechanical maintanence service is needed. I'll see what BUK have to say on Monday. |

I would recommend a complete service. Yes, an error of one minute per day can usually be adjusted unless the regulator is already at the end of the range. However, without a known history I would suspect that any stability gained by adjustment would be temporary if it has been a long time since it was serviced. |

I have just spoken to BUK (very friendly and helpful ) and they have checked and confirmed that the watch has not been serviced before by them. So it is now making its way there for a full overhaul. Quoted £280 and a 6-8 week turnaround.

The 6 to 8 week turnaround time is a less good though, although it IS quite usual. Warranty works tends to take priority, so service stuff always takes a little longer. It'll definitely be worth it though. |

I'm sure it will be worth it, and the was for the time scale as i too thought it was a reasonable price considering the skills needed to carry out the work.

It'll come back looking as good as new  . Plus the knowledge that the watch is in good working order I'm sure is worth the wait. 6-8 weeks is the maximum, hopefully it doesn't take that long Good luck! |
