Hi guys

I now know that I can get breitling to change dials which will cost me 600 gbp (ish) but this one will need those in the know (especially about reference numbers)

1) i thought a part of the reference number on each watch identified the face it has - how do breitling overcome this on changing the face? do they just re issue a new case back for the watch

2) if so do they re certify the watch and issue new paperwork with the new reference dials on.

3) does anyone know a dealer in the nw of england who will be able to help me with this? i use mappin and webb and watches of switzerland. both are helpful and polite but never give me the feeling that they are knowledgable about breitling or are able to help with complex matters

4) can you deal with breitling direct if so what is the contact details

There isn't a dial color ref# on the case back, so there's no need for replacing it.

Breitling's full reference number is used to precisely identify a watch but only the first 6 characters are used on the case back eg A23322 on a Navitimer

Whilst there is no dial reference in the model number on the case back, Breitling now add a dial code to the date of manufacture stamp between the lugs at 6. For example

1408 shows it was made in the 14th week of 2008. The B5 indicates a black dial.

Don't know why do they have letter+3 digits for the dial ref# than.

I'm not sure what the relationship is between the two character lug code and the full four character model ref code, but Sharky is absolutely correct.

If a dial is replaced with a different colout Breitling updates it's own records to reflect the fact that the serial number is now associated with a different colour watch, but the case code between the lugs is not changed.

I'm going deep into the memory banks now and can't recall a source, but I believe that the official explanation for the two character dial cose between the lugs is something like "the colour of the dial when originally produced" - that indicates that it may not be the current colour.

What about Chronomats and their many dial colors, do they have mark for every color?
It would be easier for them to stamp two additional digits and make it same as the one in the handbook.

Trying to find the info - without much luck right now. There was a thread on here about a year back as well if I recall.
